  2. Linking physical and mental health…it makes sense • Initiative launched by Minister in May 2009. • Goals of the initiative. • Supported at the local level. • Workshops planned for 2010. • E-learning resource is under development.

  3. Supporting Families Early (SFE) • New SAFE START Consultation-Liaison positions being established in each Area in 2010. • National Perinatal Depression Initiative (NPDI) will fund new teams in three Areas to provide follow-up care and family-focused support for women who are experiencing severe or complex mental health problems during the perinatal period. • Through NPDI funding, NSW Health will expand existing SFE and SAFE START Education for a wider audience

  4. Keep Them Safe-Whole Family Teams • MH&DA - Whole Family Teams. • Whole Family Teams will address the needs of whole families where carers have mental health and/or drug and alcohol problems, parenting difficulties and child protection concerns • five year funding beginning in 2009/10 • pilots in four locations: Lismore, Newcastle, Wyong and Nowra. • provide specialist assessment, group, family and individual interventions with assertive outreach.

  5. Youth Mental Health • New models of service • Focus on early intervention and prevention • State-wide uptake of Youth Mental Health Service (YMHS) models • Flexibility in YHMS model design • Valuable integration of YHMS models and Headspace sites

  6. Eating Disorders • Centre for Eating and Dieting Disorders (CEDD) GP initiatives • Expanding range of training options • Medical and psychological /mental health issues • MHDAO funds a Statewide Service Development Coordinator, 4 AHS Coordinators and 2 Pilot day clinics • Clinical support line for clinical support and referral contact point

  7. Emergency MH responses • Collaboration with Police and Ambulance • MoU • IDC – Alliance of NSW GPs represented • LPC processes • MH Act 2007 • Building MH awareness and skills for Police and Ambulance • Additional MH presence and capacity in EDs • GPs encouraged to use Ambulance for transport

  8. State Mental Health Telephone Access Line (SMHTAL) • Single point (1800) access to mental health telephone triage, advice and referral to local MH services • AHSs are being supported by NSW Health to provide 24/7 telephone response by mental health professionals and to operate mental telephone triage services that meet state wide performance Standards • Due to go live state wide by mid 2010 • Targeting new referrals.

NSW Service Plan for Specialist Mental Health Services for Older People 2005-2015 • Based in Orange and with a state wide focus • The Service Plan is a statewide service delivery framework to ensure health care and the support needs of older people with mental health problems • Partnerships between specialist mental health teams and GPs. • Direct advice on care planning • Dementia guidelines and Framework

  10. Mental Health for GPs education program - IoP • Post graduate certificate, diploma and masters • Mental Health skills Workshops • Scholarships

  11. VETE and Rehabilitation • Recovery and resource services program • Clinical Partnership coordinators • Commonwealth funded services
