  1. What is a Physician Hospital Compact? • A compact is an agreement that clearly states the commitment of the medical staff and hospital leadership to one another for the purpose of improving patient care and furthering our mutual business interests. • It is developed by the medical staff and hospital leadership as a “living” document to help achieve a shared vision. The compact will evolve as healthcare changes.

  2. Why is it Important? • Our environment is rapidly changing and the way physicians and hospital leadership worked together 20 years ago won’t sustain us in the future • The compact means: • Medical Staff and hospital leadership will work together to achieve: • Better coordinated care and services for physicians and your patients • Improved patient outcomes • Ease of access to key patient information • Improved services that will result in an increased market share for the physician and hospital

  3. Development of the Compact • The compact process was initiated by the Medical Staff Leadership • The draft compact has been the result of a group of physicians who volunteered to be a part of the process with hospital leadership. • The physicians involved in the development were a cross section from all departments Dr. M. Balon Dr. L. Cheung Dr. M. Devore Dr. T. Dolnicek Dr. A. Drelichman Dr. S. Eathorne Dr. R. Forte Dr. I. Grinberg Dr. M Harris Dr. M. Haynes Dr. L. Hochman Dr. D. Hollander Dr. D. Lincoln Dr. S. 4. Why Are We Here? • The compact is not done – we are seeking input from the medical staff • Input is being sought at department meetings, and in focus groups. • The compact will be voted on by the medical executive committee prior to adoption. We need your input through March, 2008

  5. DRAFT Shared Vision • It is our vision that physician and hospital leaders will be honest and transparent in communication and planning. This will result in trust and confidence and lead to mutual respect, optimism, creativity and cooperation. The compact that follows provides a framework of expectations to govern daily interactions and to create future policies. This compact will help to create the preeminent health care delivery system, focused on the patient-doctor relationship and the establishment of a medical home for the patient and his primary physician.

  6. Why and Why Now • We believe the health of the entire community is the concern of physicians, hospital leadership and staff; • We believe physicians and the health care team members have a vocation to heal and prevent sickness and alleviate suffering; • We believe our deepest aspirations for our professions coupled with society’s demand for demonstrably effective care makes our interdependence apparent and our need for partnership essential; • Werecognize the need to create a new relationship to ensure our mutual future success; • We have developed this compact to make explicit our relationship, to provide strategic direction and consistency beyond any single individual involved in its implementation.

  7. Our Mutual Commitments to Each Other • Physicians and hospital leadership will: • Put aside past conflicts and seek to understand all points of view in order to progress. • Participate in the design and implementation of best clinical practices. • Give and receive feedback in the service of improving our patient centered care. • Commit time and resources to professional growth and development, including participation or support of medical education and research. • Support the vision

Commit to understanding, processing and distributing outcome data to achieve best clinical practice Pursue public recognition and market its programs, services and its physicians to raise awareness in the communities we serve Demonstrate respect and appreciation for physician contributions. Our Mutual Commitments to Each Other – Better Care

  9.
