  1. RF Concerns for the restart of the PS(-complex) and SPS What has changed? Start-up after long shutdown is a concern (many beams in 2006!) SPS: New timing hardware and software deployed by AB-CO B-train: change of responsibility to AT-MTM (2006-2007) (covered in session 3 by D. Cornuet); looks now OK CNIC policy Move of accelerator operations to CCC in Prevessin Piquet Service for AB-RF-FB with 5+ staff members to betrained Software: all operational? Archives? Future coherency across all machines? W. Hofle (AB/RF/FB) PS-SPS Days: RF concerns for the restart of the PS and SPS 18 January 2006

  2. SPS Timing Hardware installed by AB-CO -> OK CTIM event “Start Flat Top” not implemented as requested by RF New software tools - > training for RF required as soon as software is available! Reprogramming of all cycles required, we expect additional workload For RF it looks like the new system with a few general CTIM events will be less user friendly than the old software, risk of errors W. Hofle (AB/RF/FB) PS-SPS Days: RF concerns for the restart of the PS and SPS 18 January 2006

  3. Move to CCC and CNIC AB-RF-FB will gradually relocate to Prevessin, building 864 -> good for communication with operators in CCC in longterm -> expect some inefficiency with local interventions on Meyrin site Can operators help the Piquet during nights/weekends with interventions? Need access (CNIC!) to application programs and archives from building 864 and selected computers on Meyrin site and from SPS Faraday cage -> CNIC policy not entirely clear to us Careful checking of all cable links (fiber links PS-SPS) through CCC -> during cold-check W. Hofle (AB/RF/FB) PS-SPS Days: RF concerns for the restart of the PS and SPS 18 January 2006

  4. Piquet Service and new staff AB-RF-FB aims to have two persons on stand-by (SPS – PS Complex) Mixed (call-out list / stand-by) system for power systems New staff members will be trained in 2006 on PS complex and SPS for interventions and Piquet system (note: four new recruits in AB-RF-FB during 2005) Some changes of responsibility: -> SPS Damper power system covered by AB-RF-SR Piquet -> AB-RF-SR (Prevessin) Piquet cover PS 200 MHz system Experts are available as in the past to back up Piquet Initial response time can be longer, but we will profit from the training of the young staff in the long term W. Hofle (AB/RF/FB) PS-SPS Days: RF concerns for the restart of the PS and SPS 18 January 2006

  5. Conclusions There were no major changes done by us in the 2005/2006 shutdown Externally initiated and organizational changes lead to additional workload Despite our good will for an efficient start-up we need also to follow the general guidelines and continue to give LHC and the I-LHC project the agreed priorities over operations But I personally look very much forward to see beam back in the SPS soon!
