  2. Kentucky Health Information Exchange Kentucky is building a statewide health information exchange with the goal of connecting all providers across the Commonwealth within the next year. Initial funding is from a Medicaid Transformation Grant ($4.9M) which has allowed for the development of core functionality of the KHIE. The pilot went live on April 1, 2010. Two methods of connectivity offered Edge Server Methodology Continuity of Care Document (CCD) Methodology Three levels of connectivity are offered for CCD Silver Gold Platinum ACS is the vendor CHFS is working with to implement the KHIE. ACS has partnered with Axolotl to provide the edge server method of connectivity. Cabinet for Health and Family Services Slide #2

  3. What will the KHIE do? The initiative will help Kentucky advance health information technology and the electronic exchange of health information to better coordinate care of patients, deliver care more efficiently and improve patient care and health. The initial participants in the KHIE are helping us understand what we need to do to make the KHIE useful for providers, as well as determine any obstacles we might encounter as we connect other providers into the health information exchange. Medicaid claims data from the past two and a half years has been made available in the KHIE Provide alignment with federal health information exchange Establish a framework for future investments in health information exchange Provide for improved care, a better continuity of care and reduced costs Cabinet for Health and Family Services Slide #3

  4. KHIE Connectivity in Progress In addition to the pilot hospitals which are connected live to KHIE, we have the following connections in progress: State Lab data Private lab data (Labcorp, Quest, LabDX) Cancer Registry Immunization Registry EMR vendors Kentucky RHIOs Cabinet for Health and Family Services Slide #4

  6. Demonstrations Pikeville Medical Center and Central Baptist Hospital will conduct a live demonstration (using de-identified data) on how they are using the KHIE to obtain clinical information on their patients. They are both using the CCD method of connectivity. CHFS has also asked Axolotl to conduct a demonstration of the Virtual Health Record (VHR) which will demonstrate using the Edge Server method of connectivity. At this time, the KHIE is offering connectivity at no cost to the providers. The goal is to continue this for the next year or two. Cabinet for Health and Family Services Slide #6
