Background • In 1997, Bionova Produce Inc. established a step by step protocol for new product development, starting from concept generation to commercial roll-out. • An internal product development committee integrated by R&D, production, finance and marketing is responsible for the successful of new products. • Once agronomics were satisfactory, the positioning, brand name and packaging is developed and evaluated through a market test with end consumers. • A home placement test for the Vinesweet mini peppers was conducted in San Francisco and Philadelphia during 1999. • After marketing variables of Vinesweet mini peppers were successfully tested, a 5 year marketing plan was developed and implemented.
