  3. What is self image? • Self image is the beliefs and attitudes (or mental picture) we have of ourselves

  4. Formation of Self Image Q: How do we acquire the image we currently have of ourselves of how do we come to see ourselves as being a certain kind of person? A: Our self image is formed through what others think of us and our past experiences-successes and failures.

  5. Does self Image effect our behavior???? • We tend to act like the person we believe ourselves to be. • The self-fulfilling prophecy • People who feel good about themselves are: • More confident • More satisfied • Do better in school • More popular

  6. Points to Make How many self images do we have? Lots!! We should never generalize from one or two bad experiences Is our self image permanent, never changing?? No – thank goodness!!

  7. How do we improve our self image?? • Never form a negative image of yourself after one or two bad experiences. • Take stock. Look at yourself as realistically as possible. Identify your strengths & challenges. • Work in improving the areas where you are weak.

  8. How to set Goals • Pick a goal that is realistic • Pick a goal that is manageable, that you can break down into a series of small steps or sub-goals. • Pick a goal which is measurable • Pick something that is meaningful to you

Tips for Achieving Your Goals • Have a positive attitude • Don’t be afraid to make mistakes • If you don’t reach a particular goal or sub-goal don’t think of it as a failure • Praise yourself for any progress, no matter how small • Identify any areas that need further improvement • Use your imagination
