  1. Write on your post it note one thing that would be fun for you to describe. • It can be any of these things: • A person • A place • A thing • An activity • Take out two sheets of paper. One will be for your writing notes(Highlighted in Yellow). The other will be your first descriptive introduction for this class!

  2. 5 Easy Steps to Writing an Introduction • Step 1:Hook Sentence • Step 2:Topic Sentence • Step 3: Supporting Details (2-3 sentences) • Step 4: Thesis or Controlling Idea (3 points) • Step 5:Clincher Sentence

  3. Step 1: Ways to Start a Hook • Make a Bold Statement ( write something that will grab their attention) • Begin with a Little Known Fact • Open with a Quote • Set the Scene ( use descriptions and vivid words) • EX: “Wham, it’s out of here!”

  4. Step 2: Write a Topic Sentence • A topic sentence includes the subject that you will be writing about. • EX: “Wham! It’s out of here!” Softball may be the best game in the world.

  5. Step 3: Supporting Details • Supporting details help further support the topic sentence(2-3 sentences). • EX: “Wham! It’s out of here!” Softball may be the best game in the world. I get so excited just thinking about playing. It’s definitely my favorite sport.

  6. Step 4: Make a thesis or controlling idea • A thesis or controlling idea will have three points that you will make in your paper. • EX: “Wham! It’s out of here!” Softball may be the best game in the world. I get so excited just thinking about playing. It’s definitely my favorite sport. I love hearing the crack of the ball as I hit it, I love the feel of the glove on my hand, and I love the sound of the crowd cheering me onto victory.

  7. Step 5: Make a clincher sentence • A clincher sentence concludes the paragraph. • EX: “Wham! It’s out of here!” Softball may be the best game in the world. I get so excited just thinking about playing. It’s definitely my favorite sport. I love hearing the crack of the ball as I hit it, I love the feel of the glove on my hand, and I love the sound of the crowd cheering me onto victory. It’s almost overwhelming the way that I feel when I play.

  8. Writing Practice Rotation • 1st Rotation: Write your MLA Heading on the top left corner. Write a hook for a descriptive paper. It can be on anything. 5 minutes • 2nd Rotation: Write your name below the 1st person’s name. Write the topic sentence. 3 minutes. • 3rd Rotation: Write 1 supporting detail. 2minutes • 4th Rotation: Write 1 supporting detail. 2 minutes • 5th Rotation: Write the thesis. 4 minutes • 6th Rotation: Write the clincher sentence. 3 minutes • Last step: Everyone should read each paper. On each paper, use your sticky notes to write any improvements that you might see and any good things that you might see.

  10. Body Paragraph Thesis Body paragraph 1 Hearing the crack of the ball could not be more satisfying as a player. The sound alerts me to let me know that I can run to first base. It’s almost like the sound of sizzling bacon, but it’s much more commanding . It’s also much louder. The crack of the ball is the sound that sets me free from home plate directing me to first. It’s the most satisfying sound. “Wham! It’s out of here!” Softball may be the best game in the world. I get so excited just thinking about playing. It’s definitely my favorite sport.
