It’s all about the barley… • Made with Roasted Malt or Barley • Dark rich color Stouts Porters • Sweeter on the nose and palate • Tend to be lighter • Have more hop bitterness • Evolved from porters • Deeper roasted notes, as well dry bitterness • Tends to be slightly more alcoholic

  4. Guinness Extra Stout Guinness Extra Stout Brewed by: Guinness Ltd. Irish Dry Stout ABV: 6% Smell: A light malt aroma and a much stronger floral hop aroma Taste: Medium to strong roasty malt flavor. Mouth: slightly creamy, just enough carbonation Beer Advocate grade: B

Porters and Stouts 101… Porters and Stouts 101 Stouts Porters English Porter: Porters originated from UK, usually have sweeter roasted notes and are less dry American Porter: similar to the English porter, but with a higher level of hop bitterness Baltic Porter: Brewed in Northern Europe, higher in alcohol but also tends to be a bit sweeter. Dry Stout: Pronounced dry bitterness on the palate. Oatmeal Stout: Stout brewed with oatmeal, smooth quality to the palate. Russian Imperial Stout: Much higher alcohol by volume and with considerably more hop bitterness.

  7. Pipeline Porter Pipeline Porter Brewed by: Kona Brewing Company American Porter ABV: 5.4% Smell: Coffee, toasted malt with quite a big chocolate presence. Taste: Starts with light roasted malts, coffee, and chocolate. Finishes a bit sweet. Mouth: Heavy and Smooth. Beer Advocate grade: B+

  8. Samuel Smith’s Oatmeal Stout Brewed by: Samuel Smith Old Brewery American Porter ABV: 5.0% Smell: Delicious caramel malt smell but not very strong Taste: Malt flavor is toasty and roasted. Hints of oatmeal Mouth: Thick and heavy with medium-to-low carbonation Beer Advocate grade: A-

  9. Anchor Porter Brewed by: Anchor Brewing Company American Porter ABV: 5.6% Smell: Deep roasted malts, chocolate, coffee Taste: Molasses, followed by roasted malts and finishes with a dry graininess bitterness. Mouth: medium/light with medium carbonation Beer Advocate grade: A-
