Design Challenge • Design a pedestrian urban encounter to connect the area next to the Snake Bridge to the light rail station on Broadway Blvd • Site: empty lot at the northeast corner of Broadway Blvd. and Euclid Ave • Requirements: accommodate 20 visitors, orient and inform them, lead them to a secluded place, inspire contemplation, and be a positive addition to the existing urban landscape • Size: under 10,000 sq. ft.

  3. Design Program • Entry Plaza & Reception • Include a sun dial indicating starting point for visitor’s journey • Reception offers clear sense of orientation and visual information to understand the site • Display Path • A spatial experiencecontaining 10 pictorial displays (24”x36") about the Rio Nuevo development; transition the visitor to a contemplation space • Contemplation space • A place to find momentary quiet, to gather thoughts • Reflects an understanding of site views, sensitivity to the urban fabric, and climatic conditions
