  2. Adventures in Technology What is Adventures in Technology? The Adventures in Technology project is an industry-focused business, education and community partnership designed to increase the visibility of regional career opportunities in southwestern Pennsylvania. The project brings more visibility to careers in: • Manufacturing • Information technology • Biomedical/biotechnology • Finance • Marketing • Information services Funding: The project is sponsored in part by the Pittsburgh Technology Council and Catalyst Connection and the Grable Foundation.

Adventures in Technology The Adventures in Technology project engages high school students in an 8-week hands-on project to design and build a product or re-engineer an existing product, process or system. Project Goals: • Explore career opportunities • Promote education and industry relationships • Provide students with a real-world business challenge • Provide mentoring by industry professionals, business leaders and academic advisors. • Provide students with the opportunity to exhibit project at showcase event. Adventures in Technology Student Learning Objectives • Define business and industry terminology • Utilize time management techniques • Work as a team member to solve business problems • Read and process technical information • Demonstrate the ability to communicate and interact with industry professionals • Learn and understand technical concepts and principles • Gain knowledge about the materials, equipment, technology and processes used by a specific company • Utilize teamwork, decision-making and technical aptitude skills • Develop a professional presentation to illustrate project solutions Students from Northern Westmoreland CTC in Westmoreland County, discuss project with Hamill Mfg. employee, February 2004.
