  2. What it is • Self-mutilation is a complex group of behaviors, causing damage of your own tissue.

  3. There are three visible categories based on the amount of harm, rate and pattern of behavior.

  4. Major • Major self-mutilation is acts that severely damage a big amount of body tissue.

  5. Stereotypic • Stereotypic self-mutilation is repetitive, sometimes rhythmic. • Stereotypic self-mutilation is most frequently associated with Mental Retardation, when in institutionalized.

  6. Superficial • Superficial self-mutilation is notice in three forms- • Superficial • Compulsive • Episodic • Repetitive • Eating Disorders
