  2. Overview Aim: to consider how, and how well, a specific classroom science activity links to the world of work.

  3. Horticulture video How good would this be: • as a stimulus for science inquiry? • as a way to bring the world of work into the science classroom?

  4. Horticulture video • Is this a workplace context that your students are likely to recognise? • In which ways could you encourage them to think about scientific questions that arise from the context? • In which ways, and to what extent, does the video provide some careers guidance?

  5. The student experience • How would your students respond to the task? • Make a note of your thinking.

  6. The student experience • What science are the students learning? • What difficulties might they have with a) the experiment and b) the reporting? • What might they learn from the video? • How well will this activity work for students in terms of bringing the world of into the classroom? Why?

  7. Finishing off • Agree on a research question • Teach a lesson • Be ready to report back, with a particular focus on what you learnt about the research question.
