What should be considered for future IMT? • Market perspective • The previous forecast data in ITU-R documents were conducted in the early of 2000s(2001 – 2004) • Report ITU-R M.2072 contains market forecast which are specific for country or region • Current available market data mostly projects from 2010 to 2015. • There exists the difference between current situation and previous forecast. • Other new trends such as regulatory conditions, cost strategies, new business models(e.g.M2M communications) are also important to estimate future demands for IMT services.

What should be considered for future IMT? • Technology/Spectrum perspectives • Existing RATGs have been continuously evolved after WRC-07 • IEEE 802.16 technology which were treated to cover fixed and nomadic services has been included in IMT technology • RATG2, IMT-Advanced is scheduled to complete the first detailed specifications in March 2011. • Distribution ratios among available RATGs could be shifted according to the advanced RATGs in each service environment and in each radio environment. • Current available IMT frequency bandwidths do not meet the estimated spectrum requirements in previous study.

Proposed action at the 8th meeting • Proposed market forecast approach • For short term(2010-2015), the previous forecast need to be reviewed, by comparing it with current available data to identify the gap between current available market data and previous ITU-R forecast • For long term(2015-2020), new market trends need to be analyzed to capture the future demands for IMT services, considering all aspects such as regulation, business, users’ behaviours, etc. • Identification of area to be reviewed in the previous forecast • Discussion on working method to develop a new Report[IMT.UPDATE]
