  1. USM’s Hydrographic Science Summer Survey 2004 Skiff Setup and Logistics

  2. Skiff Setup • 1995 Carolina Skiff 21 • 20' 9¾” LOA • 93“ Beam • Weight 1250 lb. • Capacity 2700 lb. • 88 HP Johnson outboard USM 2004 Upper Pearl Survey

  3. Skiff Setup • Knudsen 320MP • Single Beam Echo Sounder USM 2004 Upper Pearl Survey

  4. Skiff Setup Knudsen 320MP Single Beam Echo Sounder • Purchased by USM in 1999 • Splash proof, molded casing (Not humidity proof!) • High resolution, 32 gray scale thermal printer • Dual Frequency (28 Hz - 200 KHz) - Simultaneous Operation • Digital Signal Processing (DSP) USM 2004 Upper Pearl Survey

  5. Skiff Setup Knudsen KEL771 Dual Frequency Transducer • Operates at 28 kHz and 200 kHz. • 28 kHz is generated by a seven-element ceramic array. • 200 kHz generated by a single large diameter ceramic. • Transducer produces beam angles of 4° (high) and 29° (low). • Also used as obstruction locator. USM 2004 Upper Pearl Survey

  6. Skiff Setup • Trimble MS860 • WAAS GPS receiver USM 2004 Upper Pearl Survey

  7. Skiff Setup Trimble MS860 WAAS GPS receiver • Dual-antenna inputs for position, heading and speed. USM 2004 Upper Pearl Survey

  8. Skiff Setup Trimble MS860 WAAS GPS receiver • Set to output NMEA messages GGA, HDT, VTG, GGK, GST, ZDA to Hypack for navigation and heading. • Configured to use WAAS signal for differential corrections. • Performed flawlessly – only downside is it needs bulky 24V transformer. USM 2004 Upper Pearl Survey
