  3. Letter (1): Career • Describe your career goals, your current online presence, and why you need to establish your online presence. • Recommended: in answering the question “why,” refer to specific articles or people in your field that exemplify strong online presence.

  4. Letter (2): Detail • Examine one aspect of your online presence in detail (in one full paragraph). • Purpose: to demonstrate your understanding of HOW to curate your online presence.

  5. Letter (3): Goals • Set clear, specific, and definite goals. • Recommended: Think forward to your “online career portfolio.” What additional web pages might you add to your website that will showcase your abilities?

  6. Profile: Naming • Be consistent in your display name. This is your professional name that will appear in all online documents, resumes, cover letters, business cards, stationary, etc. The use of the middle initial or middle name can be quite impactful. • Ideally, your username/URL matches your display name. If you abbreviate or otherwise alter your name to establish your accounts, try to be as consistent as possible. Avoid numbers and “WSU.”

  8. Profile: LinkedIn • Brand your photo and display name. • Customize your public URL. • Include your long bio in your profile Summary.

  9. Profile: Twitter • Brand your photo and display name. • Create a new public professional account if you have an active private/protected account. • Unprotect your professional account. • Do not use numbers or WSU in your Twitter handle. • Include a short bio.

  10. Profile: WordPress • Brand your photo and display name. • Your Home page should contain a long bio and profile photograph. • It should not be a blog entry or a Gravatar profile page. • The bio text should wrap around the profile picture (edit picture alignment settings).
