  1. Spiritual Growth (2) Ephesians 4:16

  2. Basic Principles Of Growth • Definition • [English] Several possibilities in Dictionary.com • One in particular seems to fit our subject • (5) “Development from another but related form or stage” • [Greek] Several words used to indicate “growth’ • One used the most is AUXAND • Meaning “to grow or increase” • There are two possible sources of growth, milk and meat (1 Cor 3:2)

  3. Right food for right recipients (Heb. 5:12-14) • Based on the wording of v. 12, I have always understood a certain disappointment by the author • Milk is for the babe (13) • Meat belongs to the mature (14) • Meat will choke a baby, milk will starve an adult • There needs to be wisdom and skill to use the proper food to facilitate proper growth

  4. Promoters Of Growth God’s design for the church (Eph. 4:11) Church is to have elders (Phil. 1:1) Elders are to shepherd (feed) the church (Acts 20:28) This shepherding is tending the flock and that includes providing for them (1 Peter 5:2, ASV) A shepherd provided everything - - food, water, shelter, safety, protection, guidance, etc. It signifies tender care and vigilant supervision

  5. Church is to have preachers (2 Tim. 4:1-5) Serves at the pleasure of the elders Accepts the charge to feed (1 Cor. 3:2, NKJV) Does so with a view to growth (1 Peter 2:2) All things for growth may be ready and available, but there must also be a willingness to receive the spiritual food (James 1:21)

  6. Plainly Speaking Be thankful (Rom. 1:8) For Jesus, the gospel, other brethren, elders, preachers, teachers, etc. Increase (2 Cor. 9:10; 1 Cor. 3:7) Redeem the time (Eph. 5:16) Better time management Better personal choices Acceptance of personal responsibility
