Vision & Mission • Vision: A TB-free world • Mission: • Ensure that every TB patient has access to effective diagnosis, treatment and cure • Stop transmission of TB • Reduce the inequitable social and economic toll of TB • Develop and implement new preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic tools and strategies to stop TB 10 years since DOTS (1993) : 10 Million patients treated

History • Stop TB Initiative (1998) • Amsterdam Declarationto Stop TB(March, 2000) • Ministerial delegations from 20 high-burden countries called for Accelerated Action • World Health Assembly (2000) • endorsed targets • endorsed Global Partnership to Stop TB • Washington Commitment (October 2001) • Urgent action is necessary to meet the 2005 goals • The partners are committed to the goals • Partners agree to: • share responsibility • collaborate within the Partnership framework

Initiatives 2002–2003: a focus on the countries • Regional and national partnerships • Social mobilization: Increase community awareness about TB, thus increasing demand for services and DOTS detection • Resource mobilization and political advocacy: Support networks in HBCs to sustain and increase political commitment and resources • TB and poverty: Integrate TB into poverty reduction strategies, especially in HIPC • Partner collaboration: bottom-up and two-way communication Milestones: • Evaluation of the Stop TB Partnership (Oct’03) • 2nd Stop TB Partners Forum (Dec’03)
