  2. What are interviewers looking for? Achievement oriented, interesting, relaxed, strong, successful in life, active, mature, enthusiastic, sensitive, pleasant, team worker and confident person Interviewers are looking for a person who has a fair understanding of the role / job to be performed and is passionate about the job and will do it with initiative, zeal and enthusiasm

  3. Know the company & the job … Find out as much as you can about the field, the company, and the position for which your are interviewing. Some good sources are in the Placement Office, the library, and on the Internet. Study the website of the company to know more… Understand the job that you are going to perform – inquire about the job being offered. Understand how will you perform well in your role and how will your background and skills help you in the job…

  4. How will you fit in the company? Have a strategy in your mind about growth and development of the company and how will you be able to contribute to it? What is the size and location of this organization? Where does this organization fit in relation to its competitors? What is the management philosophy of the organization? How well does this organization pay compared to others?

  5. Prepare for the Interview Anticipate possible questions and write out responses to organize what you want to say. Identify your strong points and develop stories from your past experiences that demonstrate these points. Include specifics of the event in order to create a complete picture for the interviewer. Take mock interviews Read latest articles, magazines, research papers Browse through important points

  6. Common Questions … Tell me about yourself. / Expand on your resume. What are your strengths/weaknesses? Describe your ideal job. Why did you elect to interview with us? Where do you see yourself in five years? What can you do for us now? What motivates you? What have you prepared for today?

  7. Reach well prepared for interview Dress appropriately. Conservative business attire is recommended. Avoid wearing excessive jewelry, make-up, cologne, or perfume. Arrive early. 10-15 minutes before the scheduled time Carry 5-10 copies of resume and your photograph Carry testimonials, degrees, achievements

  8. Greet each of the interviewer • Say – Good Morning and respectfully nod to each of the interviewer • Sit only when asked • greet the interviewers with respect. Give a firm handshake if invited by the interviewer. • Make eye contact. • Smile. • Don’t encroach on the table of interviewers • Don’t drag the chair unnecessarily • Sit straight, don’t sit in relaxing pose • Don’t cross your legs – maintain attentive posture

During the Interview Smile, Express confidence Listen intently Appear excited, positively assertive and well organised Make eye contact Ask for the job & show your love for the job Show decisiveness Maintain professional poise Project a positive attitude Emphasize your accomplishments & skills Give thoughtful responses Show enthusiasm

  10. Sell Your Skills • Present your strong points / strengths / achievements • (indirectly) take control of the content of your interview. • Find ways to include stories that demonstrate your strong points. • Use specific examples.

  11. Handling questions… Be concise. Give direct and clear answers. Be specific and give good examples. This will help give your answer credibility. Highlight your strengths. Keep in mind that every question an employer asks relates to one central concern: Why should they hire you? Help reveal your strongest points that relate to the position you are seeking. If you don’t know the answer to a question, be honest. Admit that you don’t have an answer and remain confident.

  12. Overcome your fear Don’t stumble Breathe slowly and deeply Don’t get nervous Speak slowly and clearly (you should be clearly audible to the farthest person in the board) don’t be afraid to pause for a moment to collect your thoughts.

Brush up your hobbies and your books Have latest knowledge about your hobbies, interests Read your important books and notes – specially the first chapter and summary Keep sensible hobbies - don’t just write that your hobby is net-surfing Project your personality through your Hobbies, interests and achievements Remember the key points, key issues and key themes related to your hobbies, your subjects and your passions

  14. During the tough moments…. Don’t argue unnecessarily Listen enthusiastically and keenly to the interviewers Be honest. Don’t try to cover up mistakes. Instead, show what you have learned from them. Be assertive. Be passionate for your dreams and aspirations Be firm on your values and ideals

  15. What would you like to know from Interviewers ? • If they ask you – you may ask about : - • Training programs • Opportunities for advancement • Relocation/traveling associated with the job • Benefits • Time given for joining

  16. Closing the Interview Show your thanks Don’t show your emotions of disappointment or dejection Remain smiling, confident Take permission and leave the interview room Close the gate gently (not with a bang)
