Abstract

In this project I build a Flash Memory controller, which support standard Open NAND Flash Interface on one side and allow accessing the data in memory from the other side.

MLC NAND Flash is used in commercial and industrial applications that require high performance and long-term reliability. Some applications include industrial grade Compact Flash cards, USB drives and Solid State Drives (SSDs).

  • The controller is built from

  • TI Stellaris Starter Kit, which includes ARM based Cortex-M4F microcontroller,

  • Micron 64Gb MLC NAND memory chip,

  • TSOP48 socket

  • breadboard, which connects them together.

The MT29F64G08CBAAA-WP-A is an asynchronous MLC ONFI Flash memory chip in TSOP48 package, density of 64Gb and is fully compatible with ONFI.

LM4F120H5QR – microcontroller with CPU @80 MHz (100 DMIPS) Cortex-M with FPU, 256KB Flash, 32KB SRAM, 2KB EEPROM, UART, SSI, I2C, CAN 2.0 A/B, USB 2.0, µDMA, Timers, Six physical GPIO blocks, 12-bit ADC, A/D comparators, JTAG with SWD
