  4. 2013 NYSAHPERD Conference Rhythms Revitalized I travel between schools and teach 1-4th& 6th grade Our curriculum is set up 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, etc. Success for rhythms = a curriculum that is engaging, exciting, age-appropriate, fun, shows scaffolding, and has limited repetition of moves and music between levels Today

Won’t – Break out the latest moves Will – Provide some fun practical ways to match the beat Historically – Rhythms was NOTmy favorite unit UNTIL I started teaching it to elementary students – memories of square dancing, awkward college classes with athletes, etc. Rhythm Background

Can talk without hesitation during performance and answer questions without losing the beat. Level 3 ~ Occasionally makes mistakes, but can easily correct mistakes, and get back on the beat without assistance. Matches the beat with different body parts with ease. Level 2 ~ Frequently off the beat of the music. Needs someone else to count, verbal, or visual cues to assist in getting back on beat. Level 1 ~ Little ability to move to the beat.
