The First Sin and its Punishment 1 - Genesis discusses who triggered the event surrounding the forbidden tree. 2 - Adam and Eve now perceive their nakedness and cover themselves 3 - Adam and Eve must then explain to God how their transgression happened and the role of the “serpent” 4 - God explains to the woman the consequences of her sin in terms of the pain of childbirth 5 - God explains to Adam how he will now have to toil just to surviveand “by the sweat of your face you shall eat bread.” 6 - God explains to both Adam and Eve that the major consequence of their sin is death 7 - Genesis brings forth the phrase used at funerals even to this day, as well as on Ash Wednesday: “until you return to the ground for out of it you were taken; you are dust, and to that dust you shall return.”
