Micro organisms
Micro-organisms

  • Micro-organisms: they are so small they are invisible to the human eye, and you need a microscope to see them!

  • Scientists classify them by structural characteristics (such as internal body systems and body structure)

  • They are made of cells, respire, require energy to live, respond to stimuli, grow, reproduce, and excrete waste

Protists Most Wanted- Activity

Instructions: I will break you into groups of 4-5 and you will get together with that group. Once in that group, you will work together and go through the stations. It does not matter which group you start at. When I say go you will walk and figure out which type of protist each criminal is. There are hints in the description. When the first group is done, they will sit down and raise their hand for me to see. No talking when you are finished!

Rules:

  • No running- only walking!

  • No yelling- only whispering is allowed, you want to make sure your answer stays a secret to other groups!

  • Breaking the rules will result in disqualification…

  • What do you know about microscopes?

Rules for using a microscope
Rules for using a Microscope

  • Grab the microscope by the arm and base when moving it around.

  • Make sure the stage clips are in place so the slide doesn’t move around when viewing.

  • ALWAYS start with the smallest objective when examining a slide.

  • When using the highest objective NEVER use the course adjustment because it may break the glass slide.

  • When it is time to clean up, put the microscope back the way you found it- make sure the lowest objective is on so glass slides won’t break.
