  3. Program Goal Strengthen family-school relationships and continue to expand civic, business, and community partnerships that support student achievement.

  4. Volunteer Qualifications • A warm, friendly attitude • Ability to work with others • A genuine interest in students

  5. Twinbrook’s Vision The Twinbrook Elementary School community's vision is to empower all students to think critically and creatively while reaching academic success in a trusting, positive, safe, and supportive environment.

  6. Twinbrook’s Mission Twinbrook Elementary School Community's mission is to build relationships, work collaboratively, provide rigorous differentiated instruction, and support all to achieve their full potential to become lifelong learners.

  7. Volunteer Responsibilities • Complete a Volunteer Form • View the Volunteer Orientation Online • Always sign-in and sign-out in the main office via the computerized system (wear a visitor badge) • Comply with school system policies and regulations • Respect confidentiality of students and school matters • Carry out only those duties assigned • Respect the responsibilities and schedules of school staff • Work with students within eyeshot of MCPS staff at all times • Notify the school when an illness or other circumstance prevents reporting to the school

Typical Volunteer Tasks • Office • Copying, placing items in mailboxes • Classroom • Preparing materials • Helping with students • Lunchroom • Field trips • Recruiting and organizing parents to support the classroom • Class parties • PTA events and activities • Helping prepare materials from home

  10. School Policies and Procedures • School hours (9:25 a.m. – 3:50 p.m.) • Safety and Security • Fire drills/Shelter/Lockdown • Discipline teachers’ responsibility • Use of facilities • Parking free • Teachers’ lounge private for staff • Riding the school bus possible • Other • Work experience (MCPS Form 311-56) • Use adult bathrooms ONLY

Tips for Volunteers • Remain confidential • Be flexible in assignment – We are here to help ALL students! • Be positive and patient with adults and students • Encourage students with specific praise • I like the way you… • This is great work because you… • You really helped out when you… • Let staff interrupt if you are doing a large copying job • Ask if you have questions or need help
