  2. Planning – production – installation Very detailed planning established at the start of the manufacturing drawings Including ALL operations - on a daily basis TOTAL: 123 days until installation 18.08.04 8:00h This included: Design, stores, workshop, brazing, metrology, lab for thermal measurements, assembly, pressure test, vacuum test, electro beam-welding, bakeout equipment, calibration, test of moving mechanism Space requirements in SPS, safety - radiation installation logistics, transport ON TIME within less than 5 days 2 PROTOTYPES FOR SPS -MANUFACTURING A. Bertarelli - S. Calatroni - M. Mayer - R. Perret TS/MME

  3. Quality control - Manufacturing logbook Record non-conformities Record dimensional measurements Record reference measurements for final alignment in SPS Time of operations for estimation of series production - will serve as an example for industry Photos 2 PROTOTYPES FOR SPS MANUFACTURING A. 14. The mechanical design remains close to the LEP collimators BUT high beam energy requires carbon and very efficientcooling - new jaws design Extensive thermo-mechanical analyses predict that the requested 25 μm should be possible but not proven yet… prototype manufactured on standard machines Temperature measurements confirm thermal calculations Prototype design finished, series design started CONCLUSIONS A. Bertarelli - S. Calatroni - M. Mayer - R. Perret TS/MME

  15. CONCLUSIONS – next steps • Manufacture of three prototypes according to schedule, two for the SPS – one for tests • Installation date in sight • Market survey for series production launched • Many different versions ( TCP, TCS, TCT, TCLI, TCLP, TCHS, TCDI ) with different angles • “Standardisation” of different types of collimators will require considerable design effort ( one motor, two motors, plug-in, spares ) • Special types with two beams in the same tank need still to be studied in detail A. Bertarelli - S. Calatroni - M. Mayer - R. Perret TS/MME

  16. FINAL REMARKS • Next “Milestone” drawings for tender of part of the series - end of August • lot of work still ahead! KEEP THE MOMENTUM GOING Re-enforce the design team TO MEET THE DEADLINE OF THE FINANCE COMMITTEE BY THE END OF THE YEAR A. Bertarelli - S. Calatroni - M. Mayer - R. Perret TS/MME
