The Big Picture! • PEIMS History and Background • Acronym for the Public Education Information Management System • 68th Legislature in 1984 - House Bill 72 along with other initiatives such as No Pass, No Play Rule, the short-lived Teacher Career Ladder, ended the social promotion of students, and tried to lower the student-to-teacher ratio • First staff and budget data in 1987-88 & Student data in 1989-90 • Commissioner Meno created 2 committees in 1991 to oversee, coordinate, monitor and assess PEIMS activities • The Policy Committee on Public Education Information or PCPEI • The Information Task Force known as ITF

The PEIMS Data Collection Fall submission consist of budget, staff, organization, student enrollment and leaver data Midyear data consists of actual audited financial data from the previous school year Summer collection consists of student attendance, teacher and course data, course completion, discipline, restraint, and Title I-Part A data Extended year collection consists of Bilingual/ESL Summer School program data, flexible attendance data, and extended school year program data known as ESY data

The Development Cycle (PEIMS Collects Data for TEA, State, and Federal Reporting) Requestors provide legal justification for a new data collection PEIMS staff find the most efficient, non-disruptive and cost-effective way to collect the new data and submit to ITF ITF reviews proposals, prepares a cost/benefit analysis and recommend appropriate action to the PCPEI PCPEI reviews the ITF proposal and if approved, PCPEI recommends action to the Commissioner of Education Following approval from the PCPEI and the Commissioner, the PEIMS staff updates the Preliminary PEIMS Data Standards for next school year Entire process takes approximately 2 years ITF performs a Sunset Review Process on the data at least every 3 years

PET file submissions should begin the 3rd week of school • The PEIMS As Of Date is October 25, 2013 • The School-Start Window is between the first day of school and the last Friday in September and is the day that students served in the prior year must return to school to not be considered leavers • Once a district has completed its final summer submission, one • additional PET submission is required • The 2013-2014 Texas Education Data Standards (TEDS) are available

Enter https://seguin.tea.state.tx.us/apps/logon.asp. • Logging in to EDIT+: • System security for EDIT+ is managed by the Texas Education Agency Security Environment (TEASE). • Start the application by accessing the TEASE logon page and entering your TEA assigned Username and Password. • Select the Continue button.

TEA is moving its security from TEASE to a new security system call TEAL They both provide a single-sign-on to numerous TEA applications • Over time, all TEA applications will migrate from TEASE to TEAL • EDIT+ is eventually going to be replaced by the Texas Student Data System (TSDS), accessed through TEAL • Therefore, users must link their TEASE account to TEAL

Delete old TEASE account from prior district • Print Access Request Form from TEA’s website under the PEIMS – EDIT+ application • Complete ALL REQUIRED information on the form • Insure the PEIMS EDIT+ Administrator has entered the applicant’s profile into EDIT+ • The applicant and their supervisor must sign the form • Fax the completed and signed form to 512-463-9330 • Once approved, the applicant will receive an email from TEA with their log on credentials

  44. To access the Texas Student Data System, users must create a TEAL account and link their TEASE account to it. Go to: https://pryor.tea.state.tx.us/ Click on the “Request New User Account”
