  7. Teaching • Continues to go from strength to strength • All the classes full • Many swimmers progressing well. • Viewed with some envy by other clubs. • Many thanks everyone, esp. Nigel and Cheryl • Remember all volunteers, • Getting involved with local schools, • teaching lessons organised by Cheryl. • Charlotte Crosby is working with the SC at JHS to promote swimming in general and the club specifically. • Working with HCC on same ASWPC AGM 2007

  8. Coaching • Junior Squad led by Nigel going strong with nearly a full compliment of swimmers • Senior Squad • Unable to find a replacement coach as yet. • Been looking for a volunteer coach, liaising with the ASA and HCC • Need to consider looking for a paid coach. • We are not alone in our search, • Basingstoke looking for 3 coaches • Likely cost of a paid coach is in the order of £10,000 p.a. • The alternative is to develop our own coach, so if there is anyone out there interested, don’t be shy, come talk to me. • Do not get despondent. • Every senior squad session is taken by at least one Level 2 teacher • Exactly the situation with a lot of other clubs, including Basingstoke • We will continue to develop the sets for these sessions. • We will move into 2008 with a more structured plan for these sets. Watch this space. ASWPC AGM 2007

  9. Volunteers Needed • Increasingly urgent need to develop new poolside staff. • All of those who work on poolside are volunteers. • Parents who started when their kids joined the club • Attending training courses and developing skills. • It is time for new parents to get involved. • Without new parents getting involved the club will ultimately fail. • We will give you support and encouragement • We promise not to push you past your comfort point, • You do not need any experience to help on pool side, • we can teach you all you need to know, • all you need is a willingness to learn and a sense of humour. WE NEED YOU NOW!! ASWPC AGM 2007

  10. Volunteers • We also need to develop some new officials for Galas, • Timekeepers, • Judges, • Starter, • Referee, • etc. • It’s surprising how number of people it takes to run a club or gala, • We are currently relying on the goodwill of people whose children have long left the club • We need to replace these with new parents whose children will be with the club for the next few years Your Club Needs You!!! ASWPC AGM 2007

  11. Other activities • Open meets • different distances • different competition • We entered 5 open meets this year • February   Southampton • Basingstoke   April • Millfield          April (long course) • Millfield          October (long course) • Dorking           November • Another success at Basingstoke • Paige Bayliss, Mathew Dewey and Megan Young all won their 50m freestyle events which won them a place in the final "skins" event. • Talk to Betsy. • Water Polo • Coached by James Ross • Growing well witth new members in both the junior and senior squads. • See James or Roger. ASWPC AGM 2007

  12. Goch Exchange Visit • Visit in May was a total success • Very positive feedback from our guests on all aspects of the visit. • Congratulations to the team for retaining the trophy once again, • American Supper - a great night - thanks to all those involved in organising it especially Claire. • Thanks go to Cheryl and Nigel for organising the whole weekend • Invited back in May to their 100yr Anniversary celebrations ASWPC AGM 2007

  13. Financial status • Sound, not great • Some decisions needed • For 2008 • Current subscription based on everyone working for the club being a volunteer. • Paying for a coach will impact our financial model ASWPC AGM 2007

  14. Roll of Honour • In no particular order: • Nigel Sherwood and all the poolside team of Cheryl, Colin, Neil, DJ (new this year), Glen, Yvette, Alec, Cynthia, Charlotte, Samantha, James and Jack. Not forgetting James and everyone else involved poolside for Waterpolo. • Thanks to Sally for standing on pool side earlier in the year and good luck and best wishes to your family and your imminent new arrival. Keep us up to date. • The people who do the admin which makes everything possible, Paula, Cheryl, Jon, Natalie, Glen, Betsy, Anne, Charlotte, Helen, Roger, Debbie and Angie. • The officials who come back year after year for our home gala’s, Don and Phyl Kemp, Lynda Flinn, Ian Crabb, Barrie and Janice. • All those who help at galas and other events, Whipping, timekeeping, recording, door and other logistics, etc., I thank you all; we really could not manage without you. • If I’ve forgotten anyone I’m sorry, it’s totally unintentional. ASWPC AGM 2007

  15. And Finally… • Our aim is to develop a county level squad by 2009 with half the squad being Finalists. • We have shown performance improvements across the club • All of us, committee, parents and swimmers need to continue the good work with commitment, hard work and enthusiasm. • I know that as a club we can count on you to help us make it happen. • To close, we need your help. • Without new volunteers we will not be able to run the club for your kids indefinitely. • The more help we can get the easier it is for everyone. ASWPC AGM 2007

  16. Questions? Many thanks Don McEwen ASWPC AGM 2007

  17. Coaching Direction ? • Volunteer Coach • Unsuccessful to date • County level shortage • Grow our own • Who? • Time • Hire one • Cost • Availability ASWPC AGM 2007

  18. Short term • Continue as we are • More structured plan • Better coordinated sets • Seek help from other sources • We tried Graham Wardel • We are talking to Rosa Gallop • Unrealistic long term • Day jobs get in the way ASWPC AGM 2007

  19. Committee Suggestion • Investigate / source a paid coach • Investigate likely impact to subscriptions • Report back to membership before taking action ASWPC AGM 2007
