  1. HS Announcements: Monday, Feb. 11th High School Jungle News will be broadcast during Homeroom on Tuesday of this week. No NHS meeting on Tuesday. Spanish club will be meeting Tuesday during first homeroom in the choir room. Flag and Majorette try-outs for fall of 2013 will be held February 19-22. Sign-up sheets are located in the cafetorium and band room. Wear tennis shoes. Any questions, see Katie Overholt. Congratulations to the February FCCLA Safe Driver of the Month, Abby Siegenthaler! She is the recipient of the $15 iTunes gift card. Remember to drive safely and enter the March Safe Driver of the Month starting March 1. Do you have a used Prom Dress or Homecoming Dress to sell? If so, you can sell it at the Prom/Homecoming Dress Sale on Saturday, Feb. 23rd from noon to 2:00pm at the Champaign County Community Center. This is also a great place to purchase a gently used prom or homecoming dress. More information is available in the office. Student Council will be selling Valentine Lollipops during lunch this week. For only $1 you can send that special someone a sweet treat and attach your own message! Lollipops will be sold M-W and we will deliver the treat on Valentine's Day during HR. Quantities are limited so make sure you get that special person a Valentine's treat! Athletics The Varsity Boys Basketball Team defeated Springfield Catholic Central on Friday by a score of 68-54. Landon Hormann had 23 points. Grant Burden had 16 and Max Bailey had 10. The last regular season game will be this Friday at Triad. The first tournament game will be Saturday, Feb. 23rd against Brookville at Tecumseh HS. In JV action, WLS defeated SCC on Friday 40-27. Ben Bowden led the way with 8 points. The Varsity Girls Basketball Team finished their regular season with a 47-39 loss to Triad on Saturday. Leading Scorers for WLS were Melany Ward with 14 points and Maria Daulton with 12. The girls will open tournament play against Versailles on Thursday at Tipp City HS. Good luck to our bowlers and wrestlers as they begin sectional tournament action this week. The girls bowling team will compete at sectionals on Wednesday and boys on Friday. The varsity wrestlers will complete in the sectional at Sidney Lehman this Friday and Saturday. From Guidance Students currently in a dual enrollment class that want to pay tuition and receive credit, need to return forms to guidance or high school office today. Attention Juniors and Seniors- There will be a College Fair with over 60 colleges and universities on March 18, between the hours of 6:00 and 7:30 pm on the campus of Rhodes State College and the Ohio State University at Lima. The event will be held in the Cook Hall Gymnasium. There will be an Admissions and Financial Aid session held at 5:30 p.m. in Reed Hall Cafeteria. Attention juniors: Are you planning to go to a 2-yr or 4-yr college after graduation? Do you know the average tuition amount for a 4-yr public or state institution? Do you know the admission requirements for selective colleges like OSU? Answers to these questions and many others will be given to both juniors and their parents/guardians during our annual Junior College Planning Night on Thursday, March 7. The event starts at 5:30 in the media center. Reps from BGSU, Otterbein, OSU (Lima Campus and Main Campus), Urbana University and Clark State will be here to discus their universities and the types of colleges they represent. Please plan to attend. Students interested in pursuing a career in veterinary medicine; the 2013 Veterinary Exploration Conference & College Fair will be held at the Hyatt Regency in Columbus on February 23, 2013, and registration is required. Stop by the Guidance office for more information. Students interested in pursuing a Business degree - the Ohio Business Foundation is once again holding 2 Ohio Business Week opportunities. The dates for this year’s Ohio Business Weeks are June 23-29 at Ohio Dominican University and July 28-August 3 at Youngstown State University. The deadline to apply is February 28. If you are interested, stop by the Guidance office for an application and more information. Do you hope to pursue a career in a medical/health-related field? Do you want to be a doctor, veterinarian, pharmacist, physical therapist, optometrist, dentist, physician assistant? If you fit this profile, you should attend the Presidents’ Day “Path to Health Professions”, held at Wright State University on Monday, Feb. 18th from 9:00am –noon. For more information, see guidance office. For Seniors The Christy Knotts & Ranae Donohoe Scholarship application is now available in the Guidance office. The deadline to return the scholarship application to the Guidance office will be March 8th. The OSU Lima Rudd Scholarship is due Feb. 15th. Students must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA and have applied to OSU Lima for admission. The Buick Achievers Scholarship is open to any student attending a 4-year college and focusing on Engineering/Technology or Design and Business related programs of study. The application must be filled out online and the deadline is February 28, 2013. Stolly Insurance Succeed Scholarship is open to any senior that will be attending a 2 or 4 year college. The application is available in the Guidance office and the deadline for the application and essay will be February 13th, to the Guidance office.
