  1. WP5Impact for Space exploration Progress report for 2nd year LPI, KUL, SRC PAS, NOVELTIS, ROB Sergey Kuzin (LPI)

  2. Main goals • Exploring the heliospacewith multiple satellites, a data assimilation-based optimisation approach. • Perils, threats, operation: • Missions to the Near Earth Environment • Mission to Mars • Mission to the Moon • Variability of particle • environment • Computer simulation of the interaction of the space environment with spacecrafts

  3. List of Deliverables Task 5.1 (D 5.1) Exploring the heliospace with multiple satellites, a data assimilation-based optimisation approach. Lead – NOVELTIS, participating KUL. Period 1- 36 m. Task 5.2. (D 5.2) Mission to Mars: perils and threats. Lead – KULeuven. Period 1-24months. Task 5.3. (D 5.3) Mission to the Moon: perils and threats. Lead – KULeuven. Delivered in time. Task 5.4 (D5.4) Computer Simulation of the Moon environment. Lead – KULeuven. Period – 19-36 months. Task 5.5 (D 5.5) Particle environmental impacts on space-based instruments on LEO high-latitude orbits. Lead – SRC PAS, participants - LPI, ROB and outer partners. Period – 1-30 months. Task 5.6 (D5.6) Effects of the upper atmosphere of the Earth on solar EUV observations from LEO satellites. Lead – LPI, participants – ROB. Period – 1-30 months Task 5.7 (D5.7) Computer simulation of the interaction of the space environment with satellites under quiet and active conditions. Lead – KULeuven, Delivered in time 2012 2013 2014 2015 2012 2013 2014 2015 2012 2013 2014 2015 2012 2013 2014 2015 2012 2013 2014 2015 2012 2013 2014 2015 2012 2013 2014 2015 in progress planned done March 2014

  4. 5 November 2003 22:46:39 UT Remaining tasks: • Final comparison of obtained results with the SPENVIS and GEANT4 predictions. • Final analysis of database content. • Release of final database version.

  5. D5.6 Effects of the Earth upper atmosphere on solar EUV observations • Goal To reach: Study of atmosphere absorption effects in occultation data of the CORONAS/SPIRIT/TESIS and PROBA2/SWAP/LYRA solar experiments, comparison with models, dependence on solar and geomagnetic activity Min Moderate • Progress So far: • Analysis of occultation data for max, min and moderate solar activity in 175 and 304A • Retrieval of the extinction coefficients by the Tikhonov’s generalized discrepancy method • Comparison of the measured data with the NRLMSISE-00 and DTM 2013 atmosphere models • The Deliverable report D5.6 is finishing Max SPIRIT SWAP&LYRA TESIS

  6. Comparison with atmosphere models Increase of extinction during geomagnetic storm NRLMSISE-00 Storm Kp=9 Measurement Quiet Retrieval of linear extinction coefficient by the Tikhonov’s regularization method • CONCLUSIONS • EUV absorption can be used for validation of atmospheric models • EUV absorption at different levels of solar activity much better agrees with the DTM 2013 model (FP7 ATMOP project ) than with the NRLMSISE-00 model DTM 2013 NRLMSISE-00 Measurement

  7. Status of deliverables and milestones Deliverable Milestone Collaboration D5.1 36m - 70% done MS18 18m – done NOVELTIS+KUL D5.2 24m - ready MS 4 7m –done KUL D5.3 12m - done MS29 26m – done KUL D5.4 36m – ready MS26 24m –ready KUL D5.5 30m – 80% done MS19 18m – done SRC PAS+LPI+ROB D5.6 30m - 90% done MS 9 12m – done LPI+ROB D5.7 18m -done MS 3 6m – done KUL

  8. Conclusion 1. Two of 7 deliverables have been done. 2. One deliverable is ready for submission 3. In all tasks progress (both milestones and deliverables) corresponds to the plan 4. In total prepared: 4publications 6 talks, 4 posters
