  3. Before we start the story What do you think this book is about? Do you think that this is a made-up story or a book about facts? Is it a made up/fictional imaginative story because warthogs don’t usually play drums? why do you think the author has written a story about drum-playing warthogs?

  4. Who are the main characters? How are the characters acting in the beginning of the story? How are the characters, acting at the end of the story?

  5. Explore characterisation Authors choose verbs carefully to paint a clear picture in the reader’s mind and give clues and information about: The story line Characters traits and feelings How a character has grown and changed The mood of the story For example, the verbs hate, scream and shout tell the reader that the character is unhappy or frightened, whereas the verb love, dance and sing paint a much happier picture

  7. Question 1 On page 5 there are so many saying verbs (for example, LAUGHS, SNORTS, TRUMPETS,SCOFFS AND CROWS) Why do you think the author has used these verbs? Question 2 On page 6, the author has written the thinking verb HATE and the doing verb TEASES. What is this story telling you about the character Little Ngiri Question 3 Are the verbs used to show Ngiri’s character traits/feelings the same or different from the verbs used for the other animals? Why? Question 4 Did the other animals or Little Ngiri’s character traits and feelings change at the end of the story?
