  1. Homework • You do not need to complete an assessment sheet for this lesson • You need to write out the storyline for the three scenes that we have seen today.

OmShantiOm- lesson E • To understand the character of Om and the thoughts going through his head • To create a thought tunnel showing how Om reacts to the news • To continue to study the plot of OmShantiOm • All will be able to talk/show how Om reacts to the news (L4) • Most will be able to show a considerable understanding of the plot of OmShantiOm(L5) • Some will be able to create a piece of work that shows empathy towards the characters within the story (L6).

  4. Scene 1 Om and Shanti meet for a first date. • Where is this scene set? • What elements from movies are used? • Is this scene naturalistic or not? • What effect does this have? • How does Shanti feel towards Om? • How can we tell?

  5. Scene 2 Om wants to see Shanti, so he goes to her dressing room, where he overhears a conversation. • Who is Shanti talking to? • Why is Shanti upset? • What is her news? • How does Mukesh react? • How does Om react?

  6. Thought tunnel • In thought tunnel, a character from the drama walks slowly between two rows of students. As the character passes each student, they say what the character might be thinking. It might also be referred to as a conscience alley.

  7. What thoughts are going through Om’s head? • I would like each of you to think of a sentence which could be one of Om’s thoughts. e.g. ‘I can not believe that she is married’ • You have thirty seconds to think of one, then I will ask you all to state your thoughts.

  8. One students will represent Om • The rest of us will make a corridor by standing in two rows, opposite each other • When Om passes by, we must state our thoughts. Variations • In order to show that Om is under pressure, we will move forward when we say our line to narrow the tunnel • We will whisper our thoughts • We will shout our thoughts • We will repeat our thoughts.

  10. Scene 3 Om Follows Shanti and Mukesh • Where is this scene set? • Why are they there? • What does Mukesh promise? • What is his problem with Shanti? • What does Mukesh do? • Why can’t Om save her? • What happens to Om?

  11. Improvisation • Create a scene where Om’s family is informed of his death. • Think about where the scene is set and what characters you will need. In order to heighten the impact of the scene, it is important to have a lively, fun scene before the news is given. • Remember this is improvisation, so try not to plan too heavily.
