  3. Buddhism is a religion that developed in India and spread to other areas of Asia.

  4. Buddhism was founded by Siddhartha Gautama, who was a monk that was searching for the meaning of human suffering.

  5. While meditating, he found an answer to his question and was thereafter called Buddha.  Buddha  Budai (Chinese monk)

  6. According to Buddha’s Four Noble Truths, people can end their suffering and earn salvation (nirvana) when they end their selfish desires. • THE FOUR NOBLE TRUTHS: • Life is full of pain and suffering. • Human desire causes this suffering. • By putting an end to desire, humans can end suffering. • Humans can end desire by following the Eightfold Path.

  7. Buddhists believe that people can end their selfish desires if they follow the Eightfold Path.

  8. Just like Hindus, Buddhists believe that a person’s soul can be reincarnated (reborn) over many lifetimes until earning salvation.

  9. Buddhists read the Tripitaka to give them guidance. Three Baskets of Wisdom Mahabodhi Temple (in India)
