  3. Ice Breaker: Whip out your phone. Pick two names out of your phone book and introduce yourself using 1-2 statements which each of those two people might use to introduce you. Share with at least 4 people around you.

  4. Norms • Actively participate • Show mutual respect • Limit side conversations • Use mobile devices courteously • Eat, drink, and be extraordinary!

Expected Outcomes Participants will: Obtain an overview of the skill domains that represent critical predictors of school success Comprehend the purpose of the Kindergarten Readiness Screener Learn where and how to access and administer the Kindergarten Readiness Screener Learn where to access teacher professional development and intervention lessons to address Kindergarten readiness skill student data

Snapshot of a Kindergarten Student • Based on what a typical 5 year old should be able to demonstrate coming into Kindergarten • Includes concepts and skills a Kindergarten student is expected to master by the end of the school year • Includes a section for Home Support • The snapshot can be accessed on the Curriculum Department Website http://www.houstonisd.org/cms/lib2/TX01001591/Centricity/Domain/8050/Snapshot%20of%20a%20Kindergarten%20Student.pdf

  8. Scavenger Hunt • Directions: • Choose a partner to work with. • Use the Snapshot of a Kindergarten Student to complete the Scavenger Hunt. Objective: To become familiar with the document: Snapshot of a Kindergarten Student

  9. General Overview The Kindergarten Readiness Screener provides a comprehensive overview of a child’s development in the following domains: • Language and Literacy • Mathematics • Social Emotional • Emergent and Early Writing Checklist

  10. Purpose of the Screener To gather information about a child’s overall development and readiness for Kindergarten To help teachers target student needs and scaffold instruction To provide parents with useful information about their child’s skills and readiness to learn

  11. Predictors of Success • Each item on the Kinder Readiness is an expected outcome or skill that represents expectations for the beginning of Kindergarten.
