Igbo

  • Ethnic group living in Southeastern and South Nigeria.

  • The Igbo people are one of the most influential ethnic groups in Nigeria.

  • Due to the migration and Atlantic slave trade, Igbo people are found in Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea.


  • It is unclear where the Igbo people got their name from, some theories indicate that it came from the word onigbo, meaning slave.

  • They speak Igbo, which includes Igboid languages and dialects, now a majority also speak English.

  • Their main crop is the yam, cassava, and taro.


Chinua Achebe

  • Albert Chinualumogu ("May God fight on my behalf“) Achebe

  • He was born on November 16, 1930 to Christian parents who lived in the Igbo village of Nneobi.

  • is married to Christie Achebe, and has a three children.

  • He became partially disabled after a car accident in 1990.


He is a novelist, poet, critic, and professor.

He is well known for his novels including:
