  2. Introduction • This vision is a further clarification of the Ram and the Goat vision of chapter 8. • It will also lead us into the 70th week of Daniel. • Remember – Chapter 7 deals with the Antichrist, Chapter 8 deals with Antiochus IV, & this chapter will deal with both.

  3. It is also important to know that in Hebrew King & kingdom mean the same thing according to how its used in context. WHEN THE ANGEL TALKS ABOUT THE KING OF THE SOUTH, IT SOMETIMES MEANS THE KINGDOM OF THE SOUTH INSTEAD OF A PARTICULAR KING vs. 1-20 clearly deal with events fulfilled in history. Vs. 36 to the end of the chapter deal with events that will take place in the last days. VS. 21-35 HAVE A DOUBLE FULFILLMENT -

  4. HISTORY PRESENTED VS. 2-20 vs. 2 The 3 kings are Cambyses (529BC), Pseudo-Smerdis -522BC, & Darius -521BC (Ezra 5 & 6) The fourth is Xerxes (Ezra 4:6) who invaded Greece in 480 BC. Xerxes was the ruler who brought Persian rule to it’s Zeneth of power. He used his great riches to build the biggest army in antiquity - 100's of thousands of men! Xerxes -’stirred up’(vs. 2) Greece - and this ultimately will be the downfall of the Persian rule. vs. 3 Alexander the Great - 335 BC - is this king. vs. 5 King of the south is __EGYPT________. King of the north is ___BABYLON_____. THIS BRINGS US TO ABOUT 250BC.

See handout for detail vs. 15-19 Antiochus the (III)Great - 197 BC he makes a treaty with _EGYPT____ by giving his daughter Cleopatra in marriage to Ptolemy Epiphanes - she turns on her dad!( vs. 17). Antiochus the great dies in 187 BC. Antiochus IV (Epiphanes) vs. 21-35 Ruled Syria -Palestine 176 BC to 164 BC The events of verses 19-20 are historically fulfilled.

Then he will turn back and vent his fury against the holy covenant. He will return and show favor to those who forsake the holy covenant.

Then he will turn back and vent his fury against the holy covenant. He will return and show favor to those who forsake the holy covenant. He will favor the Jews who do not worship God!

  9. Picking up in the Middle 35 Some of the wise(instructors) will stumble, so that they may be refined, purified and made spotless until the time of the end, for it will still come at the appointed time.

  10. Vs. 36+ was not fulfilled by Antiochus – this is future… • In vs. 36, the narrative changes • The “despicable one” becomes “the king” • Once again, Antiochus IV is typical of that later ruler who also persecutes believers -- The Beast

  18. Vs. 15-19 • The vision left Daniel _WEAK___________ and full of anguish. • KEY POINT - THROUGH OUR WEAKNESS GODS STRENGTH IS REVEALED • And he couldn’t speak • (v. 16b). Daniel's response--"I am overcome with anguish because of the vision, ... and I am helpless"--parallels the awe of young Isaiah in 740 B.C., after seeing the vision of God's throne. Isaiah could only exclaim, "Woe to me! ... I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the king, the LORD Almighty" • (Isa 6:5). A seraph put a live coal to Isaiah's lips, to grant his mouth new power to speak to Israel in God's name. • The Angel spoke to Daniel and __STRENGTHENED______ him. • Is. 40:29-31 THEY THAT WAIT UPON.... --- IT IS GOD WHO STRENGTHENS US!

Similarities between Antiochus IV and the Anti-Christ: • vs.21 Both rise to power by ___DIPLOMACY (INTRIGUE) and a false __PEACE____________. • DANIEL 28:23-25 TALKS ABOUT THIS - THE ANTICHRIST WILL BE A WORLD CLASS • DIPLOMAT AND GAIN THE CONFIDENCE OF THE WORLD! • vs. 22-24 They both set up a covenant with Israel. The 'Prince of the covenant' here probably refers to the __HIGH PRIEST ___(ONIAS III)___. They both also are different than their __FATHERS_______. • IN SEVERAL WAYS - MAINLY THEIR BELIEFS AND MOTIVATIONS. • WHAT MOTIVATES YOU? POWER, MONEY, LOVE, FAME, SELFISH AMBITION OR THE DESIRE FOR GODLINESS?

  20. vs. 25-28 Both go against the kingdom of the __SOUTHERN KINGDOM__. • THE TABLE OF PEACE TALKS - ALL THAT IS ACCOMPLISHED IS A FALSE PEACE • " WATCH OUT WHEN THEY CALL PEACE AND SAFETY, FOR THEN THEIR DESTRUCTION COMETH" • vs. 29-30 Antiochus was returning to fight against Egypt, and the _ROMAN__________ __NAVY_____ stopped him and turned him back. • GREAT STORY --- THE ROMAN LEGATE Q. POPILIUS LAINAS MET ANTIOCHUS 4 MILES • FROM ALEXANDRIA AND DEMANDED HE RETREAT -- ANTICHUS SAID HE WOULD TAKE • SOME TIME AND CONSIDER THE MATTER - POPILIUS DREW A CIRCLE AROUND HIM IN THE • SAND AND SAID HE HAD TO MAKE A DECISION BEFORE HE CROSSED OVER THE LINE IN THE SAND. • vs. 31 Both commit the Abomination of ___DESOLATION________________. • ANTICHUS IV CAME AGAINST JERUSALEM IN 170BC - HE COMMITTED SOME VERY INHUMAN • ACTS AND SLAUGHTERED OVER 100,000 JEWS.

  21. vs. 32-35 This is dealing with a time between the __TESTAMENTS____________. • HEW. 11:35-39, MARK 13:9-11, REV. 13 • INTERESTING READING IS 1&II MAC. & JOSIPHUS • Both persecute the __FAITHFUL__________, who refuse to follow their commands.

  22. THE ANTICHRIST • This final portion of chapter 11 now transitions to being _PROPHECY_ about the Antichrist, even though some of the things said can be applied to Antiochus IV. • REASONS FOR THE TRANSITION: • 1. ALL EVENTS UP TO VS. 35 CAN BE VERIFIED BY WELL KNOWN EVENTS IN HISTORY. • 2. THESE VERSES CORRESPOND PRECISELY TO PROPHECIES CONCERNING THE ANTICHRIST IN is. 26:20, II THES.2:2FF,REV. 13 &17 PLUS. • 3. A NATURAL LITERARY BREAK OCCURS BETWEEN 35 & 36.

  23. vs. 36 This is the __WILLFUL_______ ____KING______ talked about in Dan. 8. • Rev. 13, II Thes. 2 • vs. 37 'Desire of women' here is probably referring to the Jewish women's desire of having the __MESSIAH_________. • SOME FEEL THIS IS THE GOD OF TAMMUZ ADONIS - A DEITY WOMEN WORSHIPED. Most likely he is not even driven by human passion.

The Antichrist is thought by some to be __JEWISH_________ - • vs. 38 The 'god of fortresses' can be interpreted as putting faith in your own military might. • SOME FEEL THIS COULD REPRESENT TWO MYTHOLOGICAL GODDESSES - CYBELE AND DIANA. • (POWER AND REVENGE). • vs. 39 The 'foreign god' is the same as the god his fathers 'knew not' in verse 38 - it is __SATAN__________. • SATAN IS THE FATHER OF THIS WORLD, THE OBJECT OF EVERY FALSE RELIGION AND CULT.

  25. vs. 40 The king of the south is _EGYPT & AFRICAN NATIONS_______, and the king of the north is (PROBABLY)__RUSSIA_________. • vs. 41 _JORDAN__________ and some __ARAB________ countries will escape the Antichrists rule. • ALSO THE KINGDOM OF THE NORTH AND SOME EASTERN KINGDOM WILL ESCAPE THE ANTICHRISTS RULE. • THE BEAUTIFUL AND IS PALESTINE - THE PROMISE LAND - THE HOLY LAND

  26. vs. 42-44 In the last days, after the Antichrist is in power, there appears to be ___TWO________ world powers besides the 1 world government of the Antichrist. Those are the Northern kingdom and the Eastern kingdom. • THESE COULD BE IRAQ OR THE ORIENT TO THE EAST AND SYRIA OR RUSSIA TO THE NORTH. • AS MENTIONED, JORDAN AND SOME ARAB NATIONS__ also escapes the rule of the Antichrist, but THEY ARE not a significant military power or opponent of the Antichrist.

  27. This is the war of the second seal!

  28. Narrative 1 Daniel 11 36 "The king will do as he pleases. He will exalt andmagnify himself above every god and will say unheard-of things against the God of gods. He will be successful until the time of wrath is completed, for what has been determined must take place.

  29. 37 He will show no regard for the gods of his fathers or for the desire of women, nor will he regard any god, but will exalt himself above them all. 38 Instead of them, he will honor a god of fortresses; a god unknown to his fathers he will honor with gold and silver, with precious stones and costly gifts.

  30. The Last World War Rev. 13:4 “and they worshiped the dragon, because he gave his authority to the beast” 37 He will show no regard for the gods of his fathers or for the desire of women, nor will he regard any god, but will exalt himself above them all. 38 Instead of them, he will honor a god of fortresses;a god unknown to his fathers he will honor with gold and silver, with precious stones and costly gifts.

  31. 39 He will attack the mightiest fortresses with the help of a foreign god and will greatly honor those who acknowledge him. He will make them rulers over many people and will distribute the land at a price.

  32. 40 "At the time of the end the king of the South will engage him in battle, and the king of the North will storm out against him with chariots and cavalry and a great fleet of ships. He will invade many countries and sweep through them like a flood.

  33. 41 He will also invade the Beautiful Land. Many countries will fall, but Edom, Moab and the leaders of Ammon will be delivered from his hand. 42 He will extend his power over many countries; Egypt will not escape.

  34. 43 He will gain control of the treasures of gold and silver and all the riches of Egypt, with the Libyans and Nubians in submission. 44 But reports from the east and the north will alarm him, and he will set out in a great rage to destroy and annihilate many.

  35. 45 He will pitch his royal tents between the seas at the beautiful holy mountain. Yet he will come to his end, and no one will help him.

  36. Dan 11:40 “He will invade many countries and sweep through them like a flood.” The Beast The Beast The Beast

  37. Dan 11:42 He will extend his power over many countries; Egypt will not escape.

  38. The Kings of the East Dan 11:44 “But reports from the east and the north will alarm him,”

  39. This is the war of the second seal • Rev 6:3 When He broke the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, "Come." • Rev 6:4 And another, a red horse, went out; and to him who sat on it, it was granted to take peace from the earth, and that men would slay one another; and a great sword was given to him. • Antiochus came to power from four kings, out of the 3rd Kingdom (Greece) • He was defeated in 164 BC. • Verses 36 forward are about the Antichrist • All of this occurs in the first half of the 70th week of Daniel. • Remember, the Antichrist will be given his power from Satan and 10 kings out of the fourth kingdom (Rome).

  40. These 10 kings only have power for one hour, and they do not yet have a kingdom…Rev 17:12 "The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but they receive authority as kings with the beast for one hour. Rev 17:13 "These have one purpose, and they give their power and authority to the beast. Rev 17:14 "These will wage war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, because He is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those who are with Him are the called and chosen and faithful."

  41. But three of those leaders will disagree with the arrangement, and they will be subdued. Daniel 7:23 "Thus he said: 'The fourth beast will be a fourth kingdom on the earth, which will be different from all the other kingdoms and will devour the whole earth and tread it down and crush it.Dan 7:24 'As for the ten horns, out of this kingdom ten kings will arise; and another will arise after them, and he will be different from the previous ones and will subdue three kings. Daniel 7:25 'He will speak out against the Most High and wear down the saints of the Highest One, and he will intend to make alterations in times and in law; and they will be given into his hand for a time, times, and half a time.

  42. But three of those leaders will disagree with the arrangement, and they will be subdued. Daniel 7:23 "Thus he said: 'The fourth beast will be a fourth kingdom on the earth, which will be different from all the other kingdoms and will devour the whole earth and tread it down and crush it.Dan 7:24 'As for the ten horns, out of this kingdom ten kings will arise; and another will arise after them, and he will be different from the previous ones and will subdue three kings. Daniel 7:25 'He will speak out against the Most High and wear down the saints of the Highest One, and he will intend to make alterations in times and in law; and they will be given into his hand for a time, times, and half a time. Three of the leaders will oppose the peace treaty with Israel and the one world governmental system!Dan 7:8 "While I was contemplating the horns, behold, another horn, a little one, came up among them, and three of the first horns were pulled out by the roots before it; and behold, this horn possessed eyes like the eyes of a man and a mouth uttering great boasts.

  43. But three of those leaders will disagree with the arrangement, and they will be ‘uprooted’. Daniel 7:23 "Thus he said: 'The fourth beast will be a fourth kingdom on the earth, which will be different from all the other kingdoms and will devour the whole earth and tread it down and crush it.Dan 7:24 'As for the ten horns, out of this kingdom ten kings will arise; and another will arise after them, and he will be different from the previous ones and will subdue three kings. Daniel 7:25 'He will speak out against the Most High and wear down the saints of the Highest One, and he will intend to make alterations in times and in law; and they will be given into his hand for a time, times, and half a time. The Antichrist will only have power for about 3.5 years!

  44. The antichrist will only have power for 3 and ½ years! This is the first half of the 70th week of Daniel!Then the sixth seal is broken…Revelation Chapter 6.The last half of the 70th week of Daniel God’s wrath will be unleashed on this planet, and no one will have control.Rev 6:15 Then the kings of the earth and the great men and the commanders (this includes the antichrist)and the rich and the strong and every slave and free man hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains; Rev 6:16 and they *said to the mountains and to the rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the presence of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb; Rev 6:17 for the great day of their wrath has come, and who is able to stand?"

  45. Rev 17:12 "The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but they receive authority as kings with the beast for one hour. Rev 17:13 "These have one purpose, and they givetheirpower and authority to the beast. 17 "For God has put it in their hearts to execute His purpose by having a common purpose, and by giving their kingdom to the beast, until the words of God will be fulfilled. Rev 13:1 And the dragon stood on the sand of the seashore. Then I saw a beast coming up out of the sea, having ten horns and seven heads, and on his horns were ten diadems, and on his heads were blasphemous names. 2 And the beast which I saw was like a leopard, and his feet were like those of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. And the dragon gave him his power and his throne and great authority. 3 I saw one of his heads as if it had been slain, and his fatal wound was healed. And the whole earth was amazed and followed after the beast;

Rev. 13:5 There was given to him a mouth speaking arrogant words and blasphemies, and authority to act for forty-two months was given to him. He has authority the first half only!

  50. vs. 45 The final headquarters of the Antichrist will be in Palestine, and there the Lord will __CONQUER__________ him. • This is the battle of Armageddon, talked about in Joel 12, Zach.14, Rev. 19, Psalm 19, and II Thes. 2. • READ REV. 19:19-21 THE ANTI CHRIST IS DESTROYED AS DANIEL FORESAW IN CH. 7:11 - BY FIRE.
