Mental Health & Youth Mental health affects us all, how much does it affect Canadian youth? • 10-20% of Canadian youth affected by mental illness • 3.2 million youth age 12-19 years risk of depression • Suicide accounts for leading cause of accidental death in youth 13-24 years • 1/5 youth who need mental health services receives them

  14. Self Care It is important to make time and take care of our body and minds. • Healthy Eating • Physical activity • Reduce stress • Mindfulness • Set goals, make a plan • Say ‘no’ when needed • Be good to yourself!!

  15. Legend of the Dream Catcher Hang a dream catcher above you while you sleep. Native philosophy believes that negative energy gets caught in the web of the dream catcher. This leaves the sleeping person below with positive dreams. The negative energy burns away with the morning’s sun.
