  4. FORUM SESSIONS Session I NGSS Base Camp - An Introduction to NGSS Base Camp will provide an introduction to the Next Generation Science Standards. The origins, development process and underlying structure will be discussed. Participants will have a chance to engage with a standard and understand the wealth of information provided by the standard. Finally, a sampling of NGSS resources will be shared. Room: S053 S054 DANCE HALL LECTURE HALL

  5. FORUM SESSIONS Session II and III Earth and Space in NGSS: More Than Just Physics, Chemistry, Biology In this session, participants will begin a conversation on the broadening of the science disciplines defined in the nineteenth-century (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) to include some of the most interdisciplinary challenges of our day. We will explore how NGSS addresses some of the more controversial content (e.g., planetary development and evolution, climate change) by synthesizing the "traditional" science disciplines with universal cross-cutting concepts and cutting-edge practices. Room: LECTURE HALL

  6. FORUM SESSIONS Session II and III An Overview of, and Immersion in, the Physical Science Standards This session will involve immersion in a brief lesson that is anchored in physical science standards. We will explore the core and component ideas in physical science, experience learning that is at the intersection of the Practices, Core Ideas & Crosscutting Concepts, and analyze how student learning can be strengthened through cross-disciplinary connections. ROOM: DANCE HALL

  7. FORUM SESSIONS Session II and III Life Science: "BEE" Positive (Biodiversity and Engaging Engineering) This session will engage in and discuss lessons for the Life Sciences standards focusing on Biodiversity. We will also explore the incorporation of Engineering standards to analyze competing design solutions. Corresponding standards from Third grade, Middle School, and High School will be discussed to show progression from level to level. ROOM: S053

  8. FORUM SESSIONS Session II and III Engaging Students with NGSS Engineering This session will focus on the conceptual shifts in both teaching and learning that are required for integrating engineering design into science education. Participants will be engaged in activities and discussions that demonstrate the core principles of engineering design and aid the participants in mastering the fundamentals of the engineering standards. ROOM: S054
