  1. TRANS-SIBERIAN RAILWAY TRAVEL What to Pack for Your Trans-Siberian Trip

  2. Did you book yourself a trip via the Trans-Siberian railway? The Trans-Siberian route is considered as world’s longest single train ride. This train ride lasts for 7 days. You will surely be amazed with the various scenery as the train travels from one country to another. But, then again, if your trip would take that long, you need to make sure that you’ve packed all your travel essentials. What you pack can either make or break your trip. You won’t be able to enjoy your trip that much if you forget some important stuff. There are also factors that you need to consider like the duration of your trip. If you chose to book Trans-Siberian Express tour or other travel itineraries, it will last longer if you’re going to make several stopovers. This will be your basis on how much clothes, food, and other essentials you’ll be packing with you. You should also remember that train corridors are narrow so bringing bulky roller suitcases can be a disadvantage. Here is a guide in packing for your Trans-Siberian railway trip: CLOTHING Make sure to pack your ‘train outfit’. Your train outfit is something that should be comfortable to wear. Pack t-shirts and light slacks with you. You can also bring a light sweater or hoodie for cover up. If, for example, you’ve booked yourself for one of the Trans-Mongolian tours from Beijing and you’re travelling during winter season, make sure to pack thick layer clothing and other essentials, like: winter coats leggings jeans (or padded trousers) thick socks t-shirts gloves

  3. Wear clothes in layers as it will keep you warm throughout your trip. Even if you’re not going to make any side trips along the way, evenings on the train can get chilly. For shoes, make sure they’re comfortable for long walks especially if you’re going for a side trip. Don’t forget to bring slippers with you. You don’t want to walk barefoot, or even in your socks, on a communal toilet. https://www.yellowratbastard.com /images/MJWINTERJACKET.jpg http://sa- impex.com/admincp/sdata/itmim gs/itm_l_332.jpg

  4. FOOD AND DRINKS Aboard the Trans-Siberian train, you can find samovars which contain hot water. Since there are no places to refrigerate food, bring food that can be cooked with hot water – instant noodles, tea, coffee, or oats. Bring your own cup for drinking. It would be much better to choose cups that have a lid so you can avoid getting scalded by spilled hot water. But, don’t pack too much snacks on your bag. You’ll have a chance to purchase more snacks along the way. Just make sure to ask how long the train will stop over the train station before you try to disembark the train. If the train leaves, it would surely cost you more than those snacks. If you don’t want to be left by the train, you can always opt for snack trolleys. You can also go to their dining carriage for more meal options. Just bring some extra cash with you. You can also take advantage of meal service packages when you book your ticket. It can cost you more when you book your tickets but it’s more convenient. TRAVEL ADAPTORS While in the train, don’t forget that you won’t have your own electrical outlet – unless you are booked for first class tickets. The communal electrical outlets are located in the corridors or near the toilets. If you’re going on a side trip, be aware that sockets and pins in every country may vary so make sure you bring a worldwide travel adaptor. In case you won’t find an outlet near you, it’s best to bring a power bank or portable recharger. For other devices, you can bring backup batteries with you. That’s better than having to fight with other people over the charging area. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wiki pedia/commons/5/55/Fomin_sam ovar.jpg http://cdn.trendhunterstatic.com/ thumbs/travel-adapter.jpeg

  5. TOILETRIES Only first class carriages have showers. But, there's a toilet and a sink for basic hygiene on other classes. There are staff that can clean it but bear in mind that toilets can get dirty fast because it’s shared by many passengers. So, bring cleaning wipes, anti-bacterial soap, and toilet paper with you. Wet wipes can be a cleaning alternative. There are also some train stations that have showers where you can tidy yourself up. OTHER USEFUL STUFF Pack a spoon, fork, and knife for eating. A pocket knife will be handy for opening food packaging or for cutting food. If you’re travelling during the summer season, bring sunscreen. Mosquito repellent can also be handy when you’re taking side trips. And, in any trip, always bring a first aid kit with you. You can never guess what will happen so pack tablets (anti-diarrhoea and pain relievers), antiseptic cream, etc. If you are on medication, take medicine with you that’s enough to last the whole trip. If you like reading, bring an e-reader (or books). It will help you stay sane in the train. Those are some handy tips to help you prepare for an epic train ride. Lastly, before you leave home, make sure to double check if you have already packed all the necessities. Enjoy your trip and treasure the experience!
