  4. Networking: Stages • Building the base of the Network • Your colleagues, classmates, faculty, relatives • Developing the Network • Find a mentor (faculty, industry expert) • Attend professional events (conferences, networking events) • Maintaining the Network • Follow-up with contacts

  5. Networking: by Steps • Elevator pitch (10-, 30-seconds) • Prepare and learn by heart your “sales pitch” • Connect with people • Approach them personally on meetings • Email/Call them • Arrange a private conversation • 20-minutes phone call, • Meeting for a lunch/coffee

Networking: Private conversation • Do your homework first! – research: • Person’s career path • Company’s business • Industry’s latest trends and developments • Ask smart questions so that: • You learn something new (that is useful and beneficial) • You show that you’re smart, committed to the industry and diligent worker • Let them know: • What you’re good at, what value you can bring • That you’re looking for an job (don’t ask for a job)

Networking: Result • You learn more about different Career paths • Helps you to clarify your own career goals • You get inside view on the industry • So you know exactly how it works/what they do • You know exactly what you want to do • Your resume is pushed to HR from the Top • HR is more responsive to internal referrals • You get a contact who has other contacts • If a person can’t help he knows people who can • You get an interview!
