  5. What is a game? • Games are an integral part of all societies. • Animals play as well. • Ground rules for games: • All participants know and understand the rules. • All participants choose to participate. • Start-end point • Space

  6. History of games • Since the beginning of human being people played games. • We have evidences of board games from as early as 202 BCE-220 CE • We can find similar games in different parts of the globe.

  7. Playing vs. Gaming Play is an open-ended territory in which make-believe and world-building are crucial factors. Games are confined areas that challenge the interpretation and optimization of rules and tactics - not to mention time and space.

  8. Types of games • Small groups/big groups • Indoor/outdoor • Board game/computer based/dice/card…

  9. WHY???? • Increase motivation • Make it meaningful • Get the students active • Help to deal with heterogenic classes • And much more….

  10. Why not? • Teacher should be able to manage the class in a certain way. • Preparation time. • Teaching style

  11. How? • What should we think about when we want to choose a game / design a game? • Target? Aims? Goals? • Know your audience • Set rules, time and space • Make it beautiful! • Think “out side the box”
