  3. Infinitives • Basic form of verb • Has no tense • Usually formed by placing “to” in front of the verb • Examples: • walk  • pat  • love  • fry 

  4. Examples: • She is going to run a marathon. • Our family wants to watch that movie. • My brother will ask to go with his friends. • The athlete lifts weights to become stronger.

  5. Present Participle • Present tense • Uses a helping verb like is, am, are • Add -ing to most verbs • Examples: • walk  • pat  • love  • fry 

  6. Examples: • I am typing my research paper. • He is eating lunch. • We are waiting in line. • They are talking about the dance. • You are making spaghetti for dinner.

  7. Past Tense • Past • Add -ed to most verbs • Examples: • walk  • pat  • love  • fry 

  8. Examples: • Lucy asked for more carrots. • Mrs. Peters assigned some math homework. • I looked through a magazine.

  9. Past Participle • Past tense • Uses a helping verb like have, has, or had • Add –ed to most verbs • Examples: • walk  • pat  • love  • fry 
