When burning a candle, paraffin wax releases various chemicals with toxic effects, such as benzene and formaldehyde, as well as many candles contain volatile synthetic fragrances into the air during combustion. Paraffin candle is certainly not environmentally friendly either, as, in short, paraffin is one of the by-products of petroleum, and petroleum is known to be a non-renewable natural resource.
