  1. Report on traditional and new indicators of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) and knowledge accumulationSPRU, CRENoS, UJM-CREUSETand all partner of WP1

  2. Intangible assets & regional economic growth Aim of the Report • The report overarches the whole WP1 • Strong empirical focus • Describes/Assesses available indicators • Presents new indicators produced in WP1 • Provides policy recommendations for regional data production Intangible assets & regional economic growth IAREG2

  3. Intangible assets & regional economic growth Structure of the Report Introduction: IA, knowledge accumulation and empirical measurement at the regional level Theoretical introduction: the key role of knowledge spillovers Critical review of traditional indicators New indicators and measures of regional knowledge accumulation Indicators/taxonomies developed within IAREG WP1 Concluding remarks/policy implications Intangible assets & regional economic growth

  4. Review of traditional STI indicators (3) Indicators classified by 4 categories Indicators assessment: Theoretical: main pros and cons, and ability to measure key features of regional knowledge accumulation in terms of: Empirical: inventory of regional data available from EUROSTAT and examples of other national and international data sources Intangible assets & regional economic growth IAREG4

  5. Results of Theoretical Assessment Intangible assets & regional economic growth IAREG5

  6. New indicators and measures of regional knowledge accumulation (4) • Regional Innovation System: central paradigm for analysis of regional potential and design of policies to promote knowledge-based regional development. But: measurement still rather limited… • Identification of indicators that can complement traditional measures particularly on two knowledge accumulation dimensions: • network capabilities, or connectivity • organisational capabilities Intangible assets & regional economic growth IAREG6

  7. Indicators/taxonomies developed within IAREG WP1 (5) Indicators: Taxonomies: Intangible Assets (LUH) and Industry/Geography Interdependence & Dynamics (SPRU) Intangible assets & regional economic growth IAREG7

Allow the measurement of new indicators on STI and IA at the regional level Provide a complete and constantly updated overview on regional data production Develop a benchmarking for policy learning in the EU The “Report on scientific support to policy activities in relation to the impact of knowledge accumulation processes on economic growth” due in month 18 will expand on these points IAREG11
