Our campus is home to students from over 120 different countries making it one of the most cosmopolitan in the UK. Currently we have over 700 students from Chinaas well as an active Chinese cultural society – pictured here

The Albert Sloman Library
The Albert Sloman library is large but easy to use and always well resourced. It also has a large reading room that is open 24 hours a day for students during the week.
The new state of the art Lecture Theatre, opened in 2006, has the capacity to hold large and intimate lectures and is a short walk from student housing.

All overseas students are guaranteed University accommodation throughout their period of study, with lots of different options to choose from.

The University of Essex has excellent sports facilities right on campus including a modern gym, sports hall, tennis courts and extensive playing fields. There are also over 30 different sports clubs that compete across the UK.
All Essex students have 24 hour access to our modern computer labs situated across the campus.

Historic buildings in Colchester
The University is situated next to Colchester, the old Roman capital of England. Colchester contains many historic buildings and museums including a castle, and is only 45 minutes by train from London.
Colchester’s Norman castle is over 900 years old and now houses an interesting museum.
