Overview of NJCSTM Programs Five Year, Combined Bachelor/Master Degree Program BS/MA Scientist-Educator Track • Specialize in High School Teaching of Biology, Chemistry or Math BS/MS Scientist-Researcher Track • Specialize in Biotechnology to Work in Science Research Fields • Specialize in Computational Applied Mathematics to Work in Industry MS Biotechnology Program • For students already holding a bachelor’s degree in science, we offer a convenient full- or part-time evening program BS/MD Joint Linkage Program • Specialize in Biomedicine to enter Drexel Medical School • Clinical preceptorships at St. Peter’s Hospital in New Brunswick

BS/MD Program Description The New Jersey Center for Science, Technology and Mathematics offers an exciting opportunity for students dedicated to pursuing careers in family medicine, general internal medicine and pediatrics. Kean University, Drexel University College of Medicine (Philadelphia PA) and St. Peter’s University Hospital (New Brunswick NJ) have created a partnership to offer a four-plus-four Bachelor of Science Medical Degree (4+4 B.S./M.D.) Scholars Program to highly qualified undergraduate students. Students in this program who meet all the requirements of this joint program while in college are awarded their B.S. in Science & Technology degree at the end of their fourth year, then proceed to enter the first year medical school class at Drexel College of Medicine.

Bachelor of Science in Science & Technology • Years 1 & 2: Freshmen/Sophomore Core Curriculum • Science & Applied Math Course Integration • All the MCAT course prerequisites completed before MCAT sitting • Chemistry linked with Calculus I and II • Physics linked with Linear Algebra • Biology linked with Probability and Statistics • Science Labs coupled with Applied Mathematics Labs • Applying math to the solution of scientific problems • Computational analysis & modeling to study complex systems & behavior • Opportunities Beyond the Science Classroom • Science Seminars by Guest Speakers • Integrated Team Research Projects with Presentations • Second Language Proficiency (Graduation Requirement) • Service-Learning and Community Outreach Opportunities

Bachelor of Science in Science & Technology • Years 3 & 4: Junior/Senior Biomedicine Curriculum • Advanced coursework in the biomedical sciences including genetics, microbiology, anatomy, physiology, • immunology, biochemistry & neurobiology • Apply content knowledge to current scientific and clinical techniques in a research setting • Pre-medical internship to experience medicine alongside physicians at St. Peter’s University Hospital • Intensive MCAT preparation • Courses in the humanities and social sciences, including second language proficiency • Free electives in human rights, sustainability or history of medicine plus service learning opportunities • Upon graduation from Kean’s NJCSTM program, students enter the • first-year medical school class at Drexel College of Medicine

Program Requirements during Bachelor’s Degree Years • Satisfactorily complete pre-medical internship at St. Peter’s Hospital • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5, and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 in all biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics courses, with no individual grade of less than a “C” in any course • Achieve GPA & grade requirements without repeating or withdrawing from any courses • Take all prerequisite courses at Kean University • All program requirements and other graduation requirements of Kean University must be completed in a timely manner • Take the MCAT (Medical College Admission Test) no later than April 30 of junior year of college • Score in a single examination a total minimum score of “31” (with no individual sub-section score less than “8”) • MCAT score of “9” or better in the critical reading section • MCAT score of “10’s” or better in the physical & biological sciences sections • A letter score of “P” or higher on the MCAT writing section • MCAT can be taken no more than three times to attain acquired scores

Expectations for Continuation onto the Medical Degree at Drexel • Prior to July 1 of junior year at Kean University, apply as an “Early Assurance Program” applicant of the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) • Receive endorsement of candidacy to Drexel College of Medicine by the Kean Biomedicine Selection Committee • Candidates must satisfy criteria listed in program requirements • Demonstrate personal qualities necessary to be a member of the student body of Drexel College of Medicine & fulfill role as a future physician • Matriculate into Drexel College of Medicine in the year stipulated on original signed contract

  9. Medical students return to St. Peter’s University Hospital for at least one 3rd year clerkship and at least one 4th year rotation.

Minimal Admission Requirements for Bachelor’s Degree in the Drexel Link • Graduation from a U.S. high school • Minimum high school GPA of 3.5 (unweighted) • Satisfactorily passed (or in progress) high school prerequisite courses: • 4 years Mathematics • 4 years English • 3 years Science • At least one semester each of biology, chemistry & physics • Combined minimum SAT math/critical reading score of 1270 • Math & Critical Reading subset scores no less than 560 • Demonstrated interest in science & medicine • Interviews upon request of the Kean NJCSTM Biomedicine Selection Committee
