  2. The Need = Access • All of the seventh grade and some of the sixth and eighth grade Language Arts teachers require students to read books in certain genres and do projects on them. • Recently they have added Animal Fiction to the more traditional lists. • There are visual lists of all the other genres but there is no easy way to find Animal Fiction.

  3. Genres

  4. Steps • Going through the automatically generated Animal visual lists to find which I think have animals playing a major role in the story based on the summary. • Looking through subject headings for other animal types in fictions and then reading through these summaries in the same fashion.

  5. Steps • Looking up further summaries and information online for books that are less clear. • If books obviously belong on another list making sure they are there.

  6. Complications • There is no subject heading in Destiny that connects even a good portion of the books. So each listing has to be gone through individually. • If there is an animal on the cover or even vaguely mentioned in the summary it gets the subject heading so then you have to determine what really is.

  7. Complications

  8. Desired Outcome • That all of the genre lists will be up to date in particular Animal Fiction. • That students will be able to find the books they need more easily.

  9. Results • A list of 277 books in the category of Animal Fiction. • The list has yet to be used by a class but the media specialist was pleased.
