  2. World of Good • improves the lives of Artisans in developing countries • gains a trade alliance with the U.S consumers • helps fight global poverty • Uses Fair Trade Wage Guide- to allow produces and buyers anywhere in the world to calculate a fair price

The company • PriyaHaji–founder @ age 16 • To help women living in poverty • $15,000 awarded at start-up for business plan • Funded by investments from friends, family, from socially minded venture capitalists • In 2005 expenses ~ $44,000 • Today services 3,000 people in ten facilities • Annual budget of $2.5 million • Staff of sixty

  4. Success • In 2006, sold products in over 1,300 locations in the U.S. • Supports 5,680 artisans w/ nearly 23,000 dependents • Supports 142 artist groups • Of the artists 75% are women • Has sold more than 1,000,000 handicrafts

  5. Development Organization • Owns 5% of World of Good Inc. • Receives 10% of its sister organization’s profits • Funds health and education projects to artisan communities in South Africa • 2006, over 650 products tested by 100 groups in 29 countries using Fair Wage Guide

Turquoise Mountain Foundation • Nonprofit, nongovernmental organization • established to help revive Afghanistan’s traditional crafts and craft making and increase employment • establishes art schools • Teach how to create and sell art • Set up programs to increase the standard of living in Afghanistan

Accomplishments • Built and made operational the Center of Traditional Afghan Arts and Architecture • Turquoise Mt. repaired and reconstructed 30 house in partnership w/ local residents • Removed more than 920 cubic meters of rubbish • Has prepared detailed site and building surveys of the MuradKhane area • Website promotes international sales
