  6. Today, annually production is about 16,000 tonnes of aquaculture products of which: 6,504 tons of carp and trout, 2,025 tonnes of tuna, 5,000 tons of sea bass and sea bream 2,160 tonnes of shellfish (mussels and oysters).

Mariculture CRO Croatian mariculture is characterized by: • farmingwhite marine fish (sea bass, sea bream and sheepshead) in the "in-shore" and "Semi off-shore" cages • tuna farming in the "offshore" cages • shellfish(oysters and mussels) on ropes • smallfarms, which establishment are followed of a relatively high capitalinvestment • Highproduction costs • Highfeed conversion factor • exportorientation

  9. RESOURCES AND NEEDS IN FISHERY Croatia underutilized natural resources infisheries (45,000 t catch, 16,000 t aquaculture). Estimates of fishing capacity in the Croatian partof Adriatic Sea is about 100,000 tons Estimated fish consumption in Croatia is only 9 kg / pc, and the worldaverage is 16 kg / pc, EU 26 kg/pc

  11. SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF AQUACULTURE According to the strategic projections and available resources Croatia could achieve an annual production: - freshwater fishes - 15,000+tons - whitemarine fishes - 15,000 tons - shellfish farming - 20,000 tons - tuna farming (?) - 4,000 tons
