The strategy of Social statistics Demonstrating the importance of maximizing the use of social statistics in Egypt, CAPMAS has set up a strategy to develop Social statistics as follows: Subscribing to the IMF Special Data Dissemination Standard (SDDS) . Adopting the definitions of the United Nations and its organizations in all Statistics such as, modifying the definition of active persons to follow the U.N definition of labor force. Keeping strong relationships with all ministries, special councils and even non-governmental organizations to facilitate transferring data from and to all these Organizations.

The strategy of Social statistics cont. 4 Specifying a coordinator in most of data sources organizations to speed up obtaining data and keeping quality in timely manner. 5 Also, making direct contact and hot line (using the internet for delivering data to CAPMAS if aplicable) with data source organizations. 6 Conducting a large household survey called ‘Master Sample Survey’ to serve all kind of field surveys including social statistics; it is updated every five years. 7 Updating the frame of work for each statistics. 8 Adopting a good and extensive training programme for both field staff and data collectors.

  7. Interaction between users and producers of official statistics There is no doubt that official statistics are produced to be used by different users. In other words, official statistics should respond to the user needs in terms of topics to be covered, format of the data dissemination , periodicity, etc… In Egypt, to strength the interaction between the users and producers of official statistics, some steps have been done such as asking data users about their opinion in the questionnaires and their content, and so on. Establishing a National Information Center (NIC) to facilitate obtaining the data for users.

  8. Interaction between users and producers of official statistics (cont.) All data are now within your reach wherever you are, in your office or home, whether in or outside Egypt, around the clock. A system called Egypt-Intranet has been developed where all statistics produced by CAPMAS are being uploaded on databases to serve data users in the demographic, economic, social fields and others. The data is updated on regular basis. Some of these data users need to subscribe to Egypt Intranet System.
