  2. Children’s Special Health Services (CSHS) • CSHS is a division in the Community Health Section of the North Dakota Department of Health • CSHS is the designated Title V CSHCN program for the MCH Block Grant

  3. CSHS provides services for children with special health care needs and their families CSHS promotes family-centered, community-based, coordinated services and systems of health care CSHS Mission:Improve Children’s Health

  4. General CSHS Eligibility • Age - child must be birth to age 21 years • Residency - child must be a ND resident • Special Health Care Need - child must have a chronic condition and require health and related services beyond that needed by most children

CSHS Programs • Specialty Care Diagnostic & Treatment Program • Multidisciplinary Clinics • Care Coordination • Metabolic Food • Russell Silver Syndrome Program • Information Resource Center • State Systems Development Initiative • CSHCN Service System • Autism Spectrum Disorder Database (registry)

CSHS provides payment for covered services Families apply for services at their county social service office Medical eligibility for diagnostic and treatment services is based on a list of approved conditions Financial eligibility for treatment services is 185% of the FPL Families must use qualified providers that participate in the CSHS program Specialty Care Diagnostic & Treatment Program

Metabolic disorders Cerebral palsy Developmental Myelodysplasia Diabetes Neurorehabilitation Asthma Autism Cleft lip/palate Cardiac program Clinics support coordinated management of chronic health conditions Any child who might benefit can attend Team evaluations are provided Reports include recommendations to help direct care An annual clinic directory is available Multidisciplinary Clinic Program

Care Coordination Program • Care coordination increases access to services and resources. • County social service staff coordinate care for children who are eligible for CSHS treatment services. • State CSHS staff also provide care coordination support for children and their families who contact the state office or who participate in select state administered programs.

  9. Metabolic Food Program • CSHS provides medical food and low-protein modified food products to individuals with PKU and MSUD

  10. Russell Silver Syndrome Program • To enroll, individuals must have Russell Silver Syndrome and be birth through 18 years of age • CSHS pays for growth hormone treatment and medical food

Information Resource Center • CSHS provides the following public information services: • Toll-free telephone number • Targeted outreach, information & referral • Resource library • Education & consultative services • Marketing activities • Information and resources that support systems development

State Systems Development Initiative (SSDI) • CSHS administers the State Systems Development Initiative (SSDI) grant. • The purpose of SSDI is to develop, enhance, and expand State Title V Maternal and Child Health (MCH) data capacity. • Improved data capacity supports effective, efficient and quality programming for women, infants, children and youth, including children and youth with special health care needs in North Dakota.

ASD Database • Within the DoH, CSHS administers an ASD database that includes records of all reported cases of ASD in North Dakota. • ASD is a state-mandated reportable condition. • The ASD report form and other resources for families and professionals can be found at: www.ndhealth.gov/cshs/autism.htm • Authority for the database: • North Dakota Century Code (Chapter 23-01-41) • North Dakota Administrative Rules (Chapter 33-03-34)
