Family Planning History-Presenter Kasie Jones • On Nov.10, 1921 Sanger founded the American Birth-Control League • Women’s Rights 1923 • Margaret Sanger led the way for Title X (Ten) which remains today providing family planning services to all low income individuals.   13. Needs and Interests for Title X -presenter Jeff Brady Title X (Ten) funded health centers serve about five million patients a year who might otherwise be unable to afford family planning. By law, no Title X (Ten) funds has ever been spent on abortion. As described in Statute [45 CFR Part 59] www.pp-sp.org

Helping to prevent unplanned pregnancies. • Prevention of sexually transmitted diseases. • Lowering health care costs. • HIV screenings saves the state money. • Testing & prevention efforts lower costs for tax payers. • Education efforts and clinical services are absolutely necessary! • Unfortunately most people do not get this type of education from their parents or from their teachers.

Title X Services • Pelvic exams and Pap tests (early detection of cervical cancer). • Breast exams and instruction on breast self examination. • Testing for high blood pressure, anemia, and diabetes. • Screening and appropriate treatment for sexually transmitted infections. • Safer-sex counseling. • Basic infertility screening. • Referrals to specialized health care.

  26. In Feb 2011 Indiana’s U.S. Rep. Mike Pence proposed bill H.R. 217 to end all safe and legal abortion with no exceptions for rape, incest, or the life of the woman. • The bill was passed in the House of Representatives • The bill was defeated in the Senate. • This was Pence’s third attempt to end funding to planned parenthood. Bill H.R. 217
